The soundtrack?
Finally, someone with common sense, heh.
It's one thing to buy into a game early, especially when a discount is on offer due to the risk. But to actually pay extra to play it early is just idiotic.
By purchasing a game early, before it is ready to be publicly released as it is intended to be, you are clearly lending a big helping hand to the developer/publisher in several ways. You are:
#1: saving them money by needing to hire less testers & opinion panels
#2: the massive amounts of feedback alone can & does save these companies literally millions in lost revenue
#3: you help to future proof or extend the overall life of the game for these people
#4 by talking about the game, posting all over the internet about it, telling your friends, etc. you are saving them huge sums of money on sales & marketing early on.
#5 you are fronting them large amounts of cash by buying the product before the product is actually ready for prime time.
Considering how much money early players/investors are saving them they should not be charging a $15 or $20 premium over the retail release price for simply playing what you've just paid in full for. Yea, to actually pay MORE for an alpha than a full completed release version is certainly fool's gold. But you'd be surprised how many line up to buy the stuff :-)
Why? What's wrong with wanting to be able to play it a bit early and steer the direction?
This is what ya'll are worried about right?
I know if people started paying to do a job that I got paid to do....I would start worrying ;)
1 I want to play it
2 I can afford it and
3 I've been waiting to get out of my ship in elite since 1984 (yes I bought the original on release at age 11)
My only question is where is my bloody pioneer skin
I can respect that...... if I were impatient and wanted to play badly enough I would likely do the same thing. But I will wait. I haven't played Elite in months anyway...... got bored and burned out with it. This will get me back in the game. It looks pretty good from the videos I have seen. But I can wait a while longer. Heck..... we've been waiting for space legs for how many years now? At least it's finally almost here.
Just as there is nothing wrong with buying Alpha to try it now and not in 2 months, with an added fun of hunting for those bugs. Some people like to find bugs, especially when they are not obliged to do it by a job contract.
