Currently I don't see any keys offered by Frontier for it to be used in Steam. Maybe because it's not out yet.
I presume that Odyssey will work just fine when I launch the game from Steam, even if I don't have it listed in my Steam library, as ultimately it's Frontier who unlocks DLCs to be used in game, and I have it in my Frontier account.
The price on Steam is way lower than on Frontier store though, regional pricing.
Lucky you. Here the regional pricing is not in my favor. Frontier's one is even a bit cheaper than Steam's one. :)
I dont really see an upside to linking my ED account to steam tbh.
I see, well as much as I like steam I really dont like the whole "we're watching how much you play something" aspect of the trade. Tho I really like the steam overlay.
But if I have to use a third party account login, anyways, then I would rather login directly than adding Steam authentication login to the chain. Just this month Steam authentication had problems, and suddenly people couldn't login into their E:D games, while I could login without problems. I still used Steam to launch it, just not Steam authentication.
TL;DR:
Buying on Frontier store will give access to the DLC while running both the standalone launcher and Steam version.
Buying on Steam will only give access when using Steam login in the launcher.
They do not have currently any information on whenever they will be giving Steam keys just like it was with Horizons Season Pass purchased on their store.
Odyssey is a new DLC, new development. The Horizons pass doesn't cover it.
And to keep it updated with Steam, I have to wait until probably some time after release, when they give out Steam partner keys. Before that only the Frontier launcher will update Odyssey for me.
At least that is how I understand it. Is that correct?
I bought Elite, Horizons and Odyssey through Steam and am playing the alpha.
Whereas if I buy from Frontier, it wont matter which way I start the game, I will be able to access it either way, but Steam will not be downloading the DLC files until I can get a key to activate it here.
