HUD colors are ugly
I'd like to change the HUD colors like I can in other games like Avorion but I haven't seen a way to do it in game?

(it is quite advanced and can multi-colour your HUD)

Otherwise https://arkku.com/elite/hud_editor/ works on the matrix of both EH & EO.
(info on which file to change on the page)

Thanks but I don't do mods, only vanilla in my games.
you're out of luck then

The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

Hud editor is not a mod it just a site that lets you preview how the values you set in game text file that correspond to hud colors actually look ingame.

This game DOES have a way to change hud colors but the option is hidden and cannot be manipulated from ingame it needs to be done by tweaking the values in a xml file.

So it's all still technically vanilla.

hud editor is a mod .

as it modifies game files to do something else.

I too did not like to mod if i could but in saying that, i have learned too backed up my original files before i changed them . " and have all different colors in diff folders"

this way i can roll back to the original at any time.

or you could just delete that file and verify your game and it will be replaced with what has been deleted.

I found changing my hud color to a blue the writing and hud was clearer as i play in VR.

https://arkku.com/elite/hud_editor/ <-- this is not a mod. It's a site that just show you values that you need to set manually in the game's xml file to have different hud colors.

By that logic tweaking FOV outside the game to bigger values or copying over keybinds can be considered "mods" too which is a huge stretch even for anti-mod purists.

What i'm getting at config file tweaks =/= mods.
They are just that .. "tweaks"

Really, pointless? I think every space game I play lets me change the UI and HUD colors, that's a very basic thing to expect from a game.

Pointless because you refuse to take any advice given here and change the HUD colors by changing few numbers in your config file.

So no one here will be able to help you and neither fdev read these forums even if you tried to push your thread as a "suggestion" to add this feature to game options instead needing to poke in the config file.

So yes. Pointless.

You literally have a way to change colouring if the hud with the most elementary modding (more of config tweaking), and you reject it for one of the most insane reasons. Of course the thread is pointless now.
It's as much "modding" as controls bindings changing is. The only difference is that the controls bindings can be changed from a game menu, while HUD changing doesn't have a game menu but requires a direct config file editing.

Keep in mind that the game menu does the same config file changing, but presents it to you in a nicer way than a text editor does.

I’m giving away FREE hud adjustments today to all newbies at the Deciat system in open mode. No modding required!

Wink wink

Exactly this. It's not modding, not by a long way.
The dev's have made the relevant file available for players to edit.
There is no reason the relevant file would be made available for edit if the dev's didn't want it to be, it has been deliberately made available for this very purpose.

Nothing is added to the game and nothing is removed, you simply change three values related to hud colour.

This is your only choice, jebblue.
Dismissing it for the reason you stated is misguided.
No offence meant.

There are even remarks added to those sections of the file, to make it easier to understand how to edit it.
