We streamed today after 6 weeks trying to play the last time and yes it was pretty and in the black it was good but didn't do any battles but the moment we hit the space stations it started to lag a bit. I noticed my frame rate drop quite badly but when we got to a conflict zone it was unplayable. We are very good playing FPS and was just not able to fight.
I'm so sorry that you spent so much money on your setup and got this garbage served up to you.
Performance - FD are trying to improve it. They have to, otherwise the console release will be a disaster. I don't think they can afford another disaster after the PC launch.
Bugs - they are fixing them... slowly.
Planet generation - this is a problem area. FD are aware, they want to improve things, but they've stated its going to take some time (reading between the lines, it seems like they are not sure how to do it)
Super dark space - some lighting issues have been addressed and i'm sure others will be addressed through patches. Its one area FD do seem to be able to improve.
Star Citizen - well, that's up to you, but swapping one poor performing game full of bugs for another poor performing game full of bugs seems like a road to nowhere.
You also need to decide if you are fine giving money to a company that has spent every year since its launch lying to and misleading its players.
(you've not stated if you run VR, so i won't advise on that)
Running a resolution of 4K with a supersampling higher than 1.0 is asking for trouble, just saying. =)
You can also just play in Horizons. It's like, right there, and all the best stuff (ie the stuff you do with your space ship) is in it.
Odyssey should be removed from steam store imo.
As for Odyssey, and the frame rate in particular, I had zero trouble with it until after patch 4, and then it randomly started playing up. Very odd. When it's good it's very very good (IMHO) but when it's bad...!
You can play full VR in Odyssey without the gray border by quick-pressing "camera suite" then "free camera" (clickclick). Motion controllers work too.
Setting the slider in steamVR or your HMDHQ to 50%, along with setting supersampling to .85 or lower, while enabling AMDFX/CAS ingame, should give you the performance you want, while also allowing you to run in 4K.
cheers
Drop Super sampling to 0.65 and use CAS to upscale to 4K. You'll barely notice the difference graphically and should get around a 78% boost to your frame rate.
Yeah....still best to play Horizons at this point. So sad to see that we have this awesome DLC just sitting there and all we've essentially done is paid to be beta testers. FD should never have gone full release until everything was completed. Developers never learn.
