AMD FidelityFX CAS
Appreciating the addition of the option for FidelityFX CAS. While I would also love to have an option for the newer FidelityFX FSR, the CAS option does help a lot for use in the game, esp in VR. The sharpness this provides gives a great boot to clarity in game esp when combined with the FXAA which impacts game performance the least. Best image quality is obviously best with SMAA; however, if one is trying to squeeze a few more frames out in the game it may not be the best combo.

Cheers to CAS and three chants for FSR, FSR, FSR!

:)

I just turned it on even though I have an Nvidia card, just because it wouldn't let me turn it off. The only settings are amd something something and normal.

But yeah I definitely noticed a distinct boost to quality. Not exactly sure what changed but it definitely looked really really good.

Still maintain solid 60fps everywhere as well (didnt try a ground CZ).

It's basically a sharpening filter. There is also a slider to adjust sharpening.

I will try out Nvidia's sharpening setting in the NV control panel to see which one has better performance in game. I play pretty much exclusively in VR so any combo of options that inproves visuals while keeping framerate up is the goal. I'm on a WMR system (O+). I did manage to get to 1.25 HMD, with in game SS at 1.0, FXSS, and Steam VR SS at 174%, with reprojection forced on. Looks great not stuttering . Crazy thing is that the CPU and GPU still look like they are barely being used except for RAM and VRAM. I'd like to make the CPU/GPU hurt more with more frames to push the visuals and VR more.

Do remember to turn the one you're not using off, as otherwise you might run into issues. :D

There are both crashes and performance issues reported with reprojection, so it might be worth to consider turning it off. -only meant as a suggestion/fyi.

And yes the sharpness filter is "basically" a screen image that is made grayscale, after which it is converted into a heightmap with dark being deep and light being highlights.
(afaik it was first created in reshade)

Lastly it does indeed seem like in quite a few cases the C/GPU isn't being fully utilized, while frames aren't peaking, which maybe leads back to the optimization process they are working on.

The depth and crispiness added with FXCAS is imo a boon, i even got +3 fps compared to the driver setting (it also sharpens the UI/all textures, which the driver didn't). :D

@Planewalker, agreed.

I do use the forced reprojection setting as it keeps the GPU much cooler and the allows me to up the resolution. The trick is finding the threshold just under where frametime can't keep up to make even 45fps reprojected to 90 stable everywhere. Too high in frametimes and yes, freezes or crashes, which means the game/system was pushed to far and vomit time. I also recognize that if I didn't force reprojection then the GPU would prob max out and run hot with fans spinning.
