How to rank up in exo-Biologist?
I bought Elite Dangerous: odyssey less then a week ago, but i have some problems.
I landed on a planet and sampled 1 sample. I didn't understand why I couldn't sell data to the exo-biologist in a station. So i searched for it on youtube, and obsidian ant said that you need 3 samples, so i went to a different world with other biological life and sampled 3 times. This time i could sell it to the exo-biologist, so i did and went back to my ship. I looked at the ranks, and i didn't any progress. So, how can I rank up in exo-biologist?

Selling a sample of one plant isn't going to make a noticeable dent

By selling more and more of those biological scans. Keep scanning and selling - you are on the right track.

Simply as ObsidiantAnt says. Gather as many samples as you can from planets and return them to a station that takes samples. The further out you travel and the more you gather before turning them helps the rank process. I found that the further away from the bio source when you hand the samples in gives you a better chance of being the first person to hand in that particular sample.

If you are the first to hand it in then the buyer will give a bonus as the same amount for that sample effectively getting double it's worth. Also they are as stated by FDEV more out there to find that is not even stated in the CODEX.

It's currently a bit of a grind but as mentioned the further out from the bubble you go the more bio life you may find that no one yet. Some planets will have more than just a couple I have found 6+ on the same planet before.

Time and patience is the order of the day with this profession.

DM me if you to know more from my own personal experience of doing exobioogy.

To become Elite in Exo-Biology you need to sell something about 400 millions of data.

You have to sample each species on a single planet three times, and the Codex tells you how far apart the samples have to be taken - as long as that species has been discovered before. (Or you keep moving away until the scanner HUD tells you it's ready to sample. If it says insufficient genetic diversity you're too close to the previous sample.)

This week I hit Taxonomist in Exobiology, which is the 6th level. 3 more levels to Elite, but I'm not rushing it. I usually take a trip 1k ly out, every couple of weeks, scanning planets and landing on anything with 4+ bio signals to check out the plant life.

It's based on credits, not samples.

I'm at Taxonomist plus 7% of the way to the next rank, and these are my stats:

Unique genus encountered 13
Unique species encountered 50
Unique variants encountered 105
Profit from organic data 69,924,100 Cr
Organic data registered 172
Profit from first logged 32,103,600 Cr
First logged 145
Planets with organic life 54
Systems with organic life 37
Unique genus data logged 6
Unique species data logged 18

Only so much content heh.

Before Odyssey's launch I had 1200 hours in Elite Dangerous. Now it's 3800 hours - including over 400 in the Alpha. The key to Odyssey on-foot content is to mix it up and include other Cmdrs from time to time. I have a blast with the two guys I play with regularly.

Good thing about a sandbox is you can play forever if there's enough variety, and there are always at least ten more things on my E:D todo list.

I'm helping an NPC faction, so everything I do in-game has a purpose - even passenger missions and low-value goods trading.

Exo-Biology ranks up depending on the profit you make selling the samples you collect from planets with biological sites to Vista Genomics.

If you cannot find possible biological sites, go to system and look for the planets you can land on (has a blue ring, then look if the planet along with that blue ring, has a blue orb encircling it.

As for the exo-biology ranks, this is the profit you need for each rank (From the elite-dangerous fandom wiki)

Directionless (Starter) - 0 Cr
Mostly Directionless - 1.5 Million Cr
Compiler - 5.3 Million Cr
Collector - 12.8 Million Cr
Cataloguer - 32 Million Cr
Taxonomist - 65 Million Cr
Ecologist - 130 Million Cr
Geneticist - 260 Million Cr
Elite ("Original") - 520 Million Cr
Elite (I - V) - 1.040 Billion Cr to 3.12 Billion Cr

If you can't find biological sites, the easiest way is to go to the codex, and just visit systems with known samples. I gained one and a half ranks just from visiting two systems that way, even without the bonus of finding undiscovered samples.

And then as an added bonus, on the way back from one of those 'discovered' systems, I happened to come across a system close to Sol (280LY) with undiscovered samples too. Hello second rank increase with minimal effort or time wasted searching.
