Incidentally, you can often plot that at anytime once you are no longer mass locked by the planet even if you have only just left the planet surface, but that is only if the jump point is visible and not occluded by the planet itself. In that case, using the escape vector is the only option. However, what I prefer to do sometimes to speed things up is target the system sun and use that as a jump target. Once I'm on my way, have left the planetary orbit, I can drop out and then plot a jump to my actual intended destination.

OOPS! , i didn't mean to quote.
But you can also bind a different key to definitely go to supercruise, regardless of your destination. It helps with the cases like yours, when your destination star system is currently obscured. So you can use that button instead of messing with deselection and selection again of your destination.
Target is blocked...
Unlock target , hit fsd. head 90dg esc vcr. Target system Re-Locks Aoutomaticly.
