Hull breach attack
I'm trying to figure out what these different messages mean and how I can get these weapons. I tried searching online but there's just a bunch of forum posts from years ago where nobody seems to know anything. Is this an engineering thing? What is the modification called?

Hull breach attack means penetration attack, usually applied to high piercing weapons after shield is depleted or engineered to ignore shield and armor.

So is that like any garden variety rail gun without engineering? What kind of other weapons can be engineered to penetrate armor?

Well cannons have a natural high penetration ability. Good for sniping internal modules, but they require quite specific tactics to be effective, and even then, they are not that great because they are slow. The advantage of railguns is that they are hitscan weapons.

Burst lasers can also be engineered for a better penetration. They already have it better than regular lasers.

Inertial impact is a good mod for them... if you don't mind your lasers waving around light disco lights :D

Don't remind me of that one! 3 degrees of jitter look small on paper, but I could barely hit an Asp Explorer from 500m with it. It's the engineering that I had to completely scrap, after wasting so many of valuable mats on it. I think it was back in times when all engineers ran casinos, but I still remember that bitter feeling. :)

I thought that warning meant you had hull breach limpets deployed against you....??

Yeah, try mixing inertial impact with overcharged (i think it is). The jitter is crazy.

That's what I did, hoping for some crazy damage increase. But the increased damage doesn't help if you can't hit the target. :)

Yeah, i think it might have a use if flying something fast and agile combined with short range blaster. Basically where you can get point blank with an opponents and stick there like a limpet.

Might have to give it a go one day.

In this case you will be better with plasmas or railguns - much more punch.

That's what I thought at first too but when I checked for limpet engineering there was nothing even close to that that I saw.

I guess it's just a generic term for any weapon that's basically "armor piercing"

It's not limpet engineering - there's a special type of limpet controller - hatchbreaker, I think it's called. When deployed against a ship they open the cargo hatch and release some of the contents into space.

Yea I've seen those before, but hull breach attack is different, just like shreds up your internal modules or breaks your canopy even though you still have hull HP left. And I believe there is a separate voice notification for when someone hits you with a hatch breaker limpet, I think it actually calls it a hatch breaker limpet then a little later it tells you that you have a cargo bay door malfunction as your cargo hold contents spills out into space. But it doesn't cause your guns to get damaged and stop firing or your thrusters to break down or your glass to shatter. That's what I'm looking for.

From what I can tell, hull breach attack is just a generic term used for a variety of different weapon attacks that don't get blocked by hull damage. And that you just kinda have to read the different descriptions of weapons and engineering stuff to get it, because I didn't see anything on a weapon called "hull breach" in the name.
