How good is the type 10 defender
Worth the money? I want to have a combat capable hauler or miner. Ive been using the type 9 but ove grown to hate how vulnerable it is. Want to work on my rep with the Fed with cargo missions but also be able to take the promotion missions without changing ships.

Already have a fully kitten python for mining and a mostly kitted anaconda set up as a gunship. For combat I mostly drive the Fer De Lance though for the maneuverability

As a miner it falls short compared to the Cutter, just on number of collectors etc so strip mining takes longer but is still a lot of fun and looks the part.

For combat in a high/res zone it works well.
Bioweave shields, all multicannons on large/mediums and pulse laser turrets on smalls.
Docking computer is a big help, as it is a tight squeeze through the slot.
If you have a good speed computer then the fighter bay is great, but if you lag just swap it for a size 7 shield bank cell.
You can fabricate ammunition and have limpet collectors grab materials.
You only need a small cargo rack for that, about 30 ton is fine.
I like high/res as there are police , so just keep reloading zone until you get the big ships and milk it.

I set my POV to 90 in the Type 10 so you get the feel of the large glass canopy.
Its my go to ship for bounty hunting in high/res

She is quite portly. But still plenty of room.

I use a type 10 for mining. Its not the best due to the agility but it does give a good feeling of being in a mining ship.

The Cutter probably has the best combat/survivability potential whilst still retaining the maximum possible cargo space for freighting. You can retain about 720t from what I remember whilst still being combat capable enough to deal with pirates. I only ever had to worry about NPC ones though, perhaps not agile enough for humans but then again humans can't perpetuation lock you so swings and roundabouts.

Resource Extraction Sites

Found in planetary rings.

They come in 4 flavours

Low - Not many pirates, generally weaker pirates
Medium - a bit more pirate activity and a bit stronger
High - more pirate activity and they are stronger
Hazardous - usually the most and strongest pirates (its all a bit random though) and on top, no system authority ships to provide assistance.

Ahh, I gotcha.

When doing surface mining in a metal ring, is there any difference in just holding the laser in a single spot vs aiming only for the metal looking parts of the rock? Aiming at a single spot makes the fragments easier for your worker drones to collect but do you get better results from aiming for the metal parts?

I have one for combat with two railguns in the small slots, 2 packhounds and a lot of gimballed cannons. It's very fun, but I must restock more than with the standard multi-cannons setup.

Is all multi cannon the standard setup for that? Or is it good to get a few lasers too?

Nah, no difference. Main difference is range. Huge difference between shooting a rock from 1 km and 0.5 km.

I use it for mining and love it, sure the cutter holds more cargo but I just like the feel of it and the extra view is handy, I named mine "Tiny"

Type 10 has highest amount of hardpoints in the game (9!!!).
However for pure hauling type 9 is better (of course if you don't have Cutter yet).
The weak spot is Type 9 maneuverability (lowest in the game - 43). This ship can be hard to succeed interdiction evasive maneuver. For example in more than 100 attempts 2 times I failed to perform it right.
In that case you have 2 options - logout of the game (unfair / immersive breaking way) or perform jump to any nearest star system as fast as you can (in this way you ignore mass lock of enemy ship). Trying to survive and perform supercruise jump in most cases will lead to imminent death.

As miner type 10 is better (and again if you don't have Cutter yet).

With incendiary multicannons (and one corrosive) you can go only multicannons for PvE with no problems. But you need to go back to station more frequently to restock, so it's up to your playstyle, perhaps you want some lasers to strip shields for free, or other kind of weapons just for fun or the challenge.

Combat logging is cheating, and will get you a ban as it violates the TOS. FYI
