Unlocking Guardian FSD Booster
I will have to be honest here. If I didn’t do my research and watched videos on YouTube school I would have had a nightmare of a time. I reached a time after outfitting my other Krait with armour and having enough credits for insurance. That it was time to unlock the FSD Booster. My jump range is better on the Krait Phantom compared to my MK II but I don’t like going out undefended. Just traveling through war zones and getting interdicted by NPCs using hatch break limpets and almost dying, no I will always carry weapons or have an escape plan out. This is why I’m at a point in unlocking the Guardian FSD booster. I managed to get the key, and even with videos, this was all new to me and took most of my night to finish off the first planet. No way am I close to getting the mats I need for the extra jump range and this morning will be heading off to my second destination.

A big thanks to the people that go out of their way making videos to make things easier for new players in ED.

What I did last night. Sniping them at long distances worked for me and my ship point defence wasn’t working on them at all.

What I'm doing today and hopefully get enough mats for my Cobra, Krait Phantom and Krait Mk II.

boy i hear ya. i have no idea how anyone would figure this out by just playing the game. That said, im not very smart but still. How would i even know where to go? is there some quest that opens this bit of knowledge up?
btw even with my hand being held by countless walkthroughs it took me a couple of hours to figure out what the hell i was supposed to be doing. Now , of course, its easy to do but damn....makes me feel pretty bad about myself.

Three 3rd party apps that are a must have, for me anyways. Inara, make an account. This way you can import Frontier data every 15 mins if you have to and you can see all your inventory, your ships and how they are built. Amazing app that will greatly improve your game play with ED

https://inara.cz/
https://cmdrs-toolbox.com/
https://eddb.io/

You will be able to see how to unlock engineers with Inara and once you unlocked Ram Tah, you can start looking at unlocking Guardian Tech. The Commanders Toolbox great app created by the person who is on the second video, very handy to have as well.

So just bookmark those three links and this is a great start for you.

Edit: Just found this video this morning and I saved it on my YouTube channel. When your ready to farm high grade materials.

yup. those three are always a alt/tab away. I couldn't have done it without them.

A random screenshot when I went looking for alien things, have no idea what planet it was on, was a fun time though.

I don't use guides or walkthroughs or whatever, so my first few years with Elite I just flew around doing missions and trade.

But this game isn't like others - if you don't go looking for guides and background on the lore you miss 90% of the content.

For example, how many people have managed to engineer a Krait MkII build and gone off to fight thargoids without watching a video or reading a how-to first?

If only the game had some sort of in-game user made knowledge base, rather than having to rely on alt+tabbing to get the most out of the game

The pioneers, my friend. It's always the pioneers. =)

This is true. I felt like that when Odyssey alpha dropped and nobody knew anything. Happy days!

The D2EA video is great, that's what I used.
Also, recommend ASPX or DBX, the top mounted utilities for Point Defense are very useful. Phantom has useless side/bottom mounted slots that are only good to pop Hatch Breakers.

Just love the Tharg and Guardian sites. I wonder whether Fdev will make anything of the Guardian sites where there are what appear to be hangers or garages. Must go back to have another look around (this time on foot), rather than in the SRV.

Question on Guardian Materials and Encoded? I’m sure things have changed but in this one area going for the materials for the FSD Booster. I’m accumulating more materials that I need while going for the Guardian Technology Components. The Guardian Technology Components is the grind and is supposed to be a common item. Not sure if you can trade for materials that you need? Do I need to farm the materials for each ship that I own or just getting the blueprint once unlocks it for any FSD booster I want to upgrade?

Eh, this morning checking things out on the site really cool. Really glad I went with Odyssey, fantastic expansion. It's not just the Foot game that makes Odyssey great.

I found out my answer about materials. Just need to unlock the blueprint once. So I don't need to grind all the materials for 3 ships. Really cool I'll be able to have my XG7 Trident fighter today as well.

Edit: Starting to get better with the SRV, just staying in the turret and I don't need to snipe them from distance. They go down pretty easy.
