I need some help learning to mine
So I've been trying to mine these hot spots in a ring for LT diamonds but I can't seem to find the good zones to land in wondering if anyone can teach me how? Been watching some videos and I've had mild success but nothing to write home about just yet

Use Detailed surface scanner to find hotpots in rings for certain items, then use Pulse Wave Analyzer when you get there to find motherload deposits. Motherload deposits after using Pulse Wave Analyzer will glow bright yellow for a few seconds after using it in rings or asteroids.

LTD mining require a bit of a skill. It is not something you can learn from anyones explanation. You probably need to do do it again and again and turn your mild success into full success. Practise, practise, practise.. I suggest you look at "Down to Earth Astronomy" videos, he loves LTD mining and has few very good videos...

True but mine the TLTR version. I found them via this way.

True but mine the TLTR version. I found then via this way.

Finding the spot is just a beginning... Opening asteroids and collecting LTDs is another thing...

I never got into sub or deep core mining but still found them. Perhaps it changed since the last time went mining. I usually stick to exploration or passenger missions for money.

OP you need to look on planets that have ice rings to find LT diamonds hot spots. Also LT diamonds are rare so you will have to do some searching.

1) go to http://edtools.ddns.net/miner
2) click button for what you want to mine to find a system worth your time
3) get scanner that fires probes, fire them at rings to find hotspots
4) land in double hotspots if possible (just inbetween them, eyeball it)
5) have 2 medium mining lasers, collector limpet control, prospector limpet control, cargo of 200 preferrable (fill cargo up with limpets, you can abandon them as you mine, they are cheap)
6) fly around, shoot prospectors in asteroids, target the prospector limpet you fired to see asteroid contents
7) mine anything that has 20% and up of the material you want to mine
8) unleash collector limpets (WITHOUT TARGETING materials)

oh, also have refinery (class2 is enough)
use contacts UI to ignore materials you dont want limpets to collect (best option is to mine a few roids in near proximity without collector limpets, going through the comms UI and ignoring materials you dont want).
Even if you ignore mixed ores like gold+silver, and you have ignored silver, limpets will collect the rock.

thats about that, spent 2 evenings on painite and got 500mil.

Well I understand how to do all that I want help finding the overlapping layers in the hot spots to drop in from FSD. The only problem I'm really having is the overlapping layers and how to drop in on them I've done everything else I've watched videos I just want someone to show me how to drop in on em like said up above explanations only do so much I need someone to show me in game XD
Yaldabaoth Oct 5, 2020 @ 12:47pm
Just eyeball it. Or take a screenshot, open paint, use circle tool until you can fit the hotspot size to identify the overlap area... and then eyeball it in game.

I'm pretty new as well and I feel like there's a bug with the pulse scanner. I find that I have to backtrack to get anything to show up.

There is.

The developers have fixed the loop holes like over lapping spots. So they don't give out as many LTD anymore.

It's definitely a bug. A month old one at that. https://issues.frontierstore.net/issue-detail/19374

Seems like something they should immediately release a hotfix for since it seems like a core game mechanic that a whole lot of people use continually. Guessing that must just be how this company rolls.

Maybe there are some sort of settings to get around it and not everyone experiences it? I dunno.

I can fly backwards to get better scan results but it's not really ideal.
