Exploration: Planetary Mapping - What's the payout?
Hey there,

i got a question about the new scanning system. If i map a planet, what's the payout for that in relation to the old DSS? And do i have to map a planet first to see if it's terraformable or does it already show up if i scanned it from afar?

Thanks in advance, cheers!

However I'm not a huge fan of the FSS except in certain cases and those are systems with very far away stellar bodies / systems or systems with high stellar body counts. On 'most' systems the FSS is worthless b/c there isn't anything worth scanning anyways yet you have to play the little minigame to find this info out.

The minigame tells you if there is something worth your time when you honk, as every planet type has a distinct signature (shown in the freq. slider).

Additionally, if you are tuned to something, it will show those little white arrows when you are close to a hit.

No need to spend more than 5 seconds in a pointless system, and the good ones you can clear (at least the part that gives good credits) in 1 minute tops once you are used to it.
Still takes longer than honk and system map. Like I said not a fan. All they did was put the same info behind more keystrokes.

I fail to see how honk and system map is any more or less keystrokes than honk and fss scanner.
The system map you could see a pictorial representation of the planets (IMO some of the water worlds were at times similar to others), the fss scanner you can clearly see the different individual frequencies that signify water worlds or earthlikes (if each line represents 1, they are at 65-70 on the scanner).

Old system was better for ELW Hunting, new system is MUCH BETTER for overall exploration payout/gameplay.

not a fan now of this new scanning need's sum ajustments i spend more time in the fss scan than actual flying..
and now there is more to do than before.

before honk and then fly and scan. simple and easy.

now honk then use a second joystick to scan all planets but not too close to the main star.
as the main star can block your scanning

then once you scan every thing you still need to prob all planets to get 100% scan of system.
finding geological site easy is cool.

but planets are darker making those pic's you take not that great" have to wait at the planet's surface for it to rotate to take a picture in the day. which could take a long time to get that nice picture.

on a good note you can scan a whole system quicker saving you flying out to those planets that are 400,000ls away 2hours fly time
hope the payout is better currently i am in the abyss so looking forward to what i got in discovery's

but over all not a fan, need two joysticks to play one game in VR

Huh? Just bind the scanner targeting to your main joystick - there is no need for the second one. You can't control your ship in FSS, anyways.

If youre using a DSS, some planets award 300k-700k(maybe more if you 100% scan them). These planets include High metal worlds, Water worlds, earth-like worlds, and anmonia worlds.

Just scanning 20 of these planets can net you millions as a final payout.

That is the only gripe I have with the new FSS. It reveals if a planet is a terraforming candidate, but you have to open System map to see this info because it is not shown in the FSS's summary. So I usualy scann all bodies and then check sys map if there is a terraformable. Mapping a terraforming cadidate pays around 1mio +/- depending on class of planet.

Ok so there is a lot to this. Mapping can be super worth it if you know what you're mapping. DO NOT waste your time with rocky, icy bodies, water/gas giants .. a regular High Metal Content World that has already been mapped by someone will net you about 125K, a water world already mapped will net you about 450K, and amonia world around 400K and an Earth Like World average 550K. If you are the first to discover and scan any of those I just named the payout is 2x more plus what you get for simply scanning it. Also High Metal Content and Water Worlds can be "terroformable" if they are then their value goes up at least another 50%. I use this tool when I travel. It makes it easier to identify the bodies in the system and to track your exploration progress. https://captainslog.scarygliders.net/captains-log-2/ << this tool will highlight the planets that are terraformable for you as well. Happy exploring. I was Elite in like 24 hours of gameplay.

The payout for scanning things hasn't changed, which means that your credits per hour are vastly increased since you can scan everything in a much shorter time.

Flying to the bodies and mapping them with probes gives you additional payout on top of the scans. That should definitely be done with earthlikes, water worlds and other highly payed objects since the mapping payout seems to be based on the scan value of the body. I usually leave everything below terraformable high metal bodies unmapped because it's no longer worth it flying over to those (when it comes to credits I mean, taking beatiful screenshots is quite another thing :P)
