composition scanner
I just can-t figure out how to make the composition scanner work. I found a planet with geysers. I land, target the crystalline structures in the geyser area *the ones you can shot for materials) but the scanner keeps saying nothing found. Doesn't seem to be anything else to target in the area...any help is appreciated

Get in the SRV if you can't aim your ship :-P

I believe the composition scanner is just for adding geological and biological discoveries to the codex. The wave scanner finds rocks with materials in them.

Yep, it's not easy to do from a ship, especially if the planet has any reasonably high gravity - you can't put your ship's nose down without falling down, yourself.

In this case I just land near by and drive with an SRV to scan from a close distance.

Pro tip. The ship only sways when your angle is steep. Try a flat angle.
