Same problem. I have "Planetary Scan Job" mission and there is no point to look for. I'm at 18 Puppis where there's only 3 landable planets. I've been in all, scanned everything and...nothing appears. It should be a bug, and a nasty one. I hope the Interstellar Command takes care of it.

Go to the Nav Point in the system, then target the Nav Point itself and your onboard scanners will scan it.

That will give you a planet to go to.

Once you're near the planet (like, almost close enough to land), you will see one of the POI's names "Mission Target" or other such language.

Land near it, board your SRV, go over to the data tower and scan that while in turret mode.

Done.

What I'M looking for, is you used to be able to use the system scanner for finding the planet to go to, but now going to the Nav Point seems the only option.

Anyone know if you can use the FSS to find the target planet?

I would wager so, yes.

That's how most missions were you have to search for anything work.

It's also how you find planets in general so.. yeah. Worth a shot?

Sometimes the mission does not trigger correctly. I've found that if scanning the nav beacon doesn't work or using the FSS doesn't work then exit the game and restart it. Sometimes this fixes it. You can also leave the system and come back but often I've found this does not fix it.

I've had instances where, if the mission target is close enough , it shows in the Nav panel. If not I use the FSS ( I think far left frequency) and you can find the source. It will show as orange (as will the arrows) as opposed to white.

scan the nav beacon instead, jump in on its location and select it from the contacts panel on your right. It will autoscan (once selected )and mission update with the planets name.

I thought the D-Scanner would also find the planet you need to search as well.

Do any of the planets in your left console show up in Blue highlight? If not, drop in on the nav beacon, scan the beacon. Check your mission details in the left console as well. see if it's been updated. If all that fails, jump out of that system, then jump back in. It may trigger the message.

I've taken 2 Planetary Scan Jobs a week apart and I cannot get any of this to work. I never get any updates.

In the first one, the nav was right beside a white dwarf and I couldn't get close enough to the nave without cooking myself. So I honked and then FSS'd everything in the system. No updates. So then I flew around and did detailed scans of the 5 or 6 landable planets. No mission updates. Left the system, came back in. No updates. Logged out, back in, no updates. Finally gave up.

A week later tried again with another planetary scan mission. Came into the system, honked, FSS'd. No updates. Dropped out of supercruise 50m from the Nav, targeted it in my left panel (not just in the HUD). Sat there 5 minutes, no updates. Flew to the 2 landable planets and detail scanned them. No updates. Logged out/back in. No updates.

This is waaaaay more trouble than it's worth!

Planetary scan jobs won’t show up in fss, only when you drop out of supercruise at the nav beacon and select it then point your ship’s nose at it. I’ve never encountered a nav beacon too close to a star though. That sounds odd.

I stopped at the nav beacon, nothing changed, the target in the system does not show up... I tried leaving and coming back, I tried closing game and coming back.. nothing. Damn this is frustrating.

There are a couple of different surface scan missions. If it’s one with an “equipment malfunction“ typically they’ll give you the planet name in the system. You fly out to the planet and you’ll see a “search area” target appear. It’ll move around randomly a few times as you get closer to the planet surface. Just keep following the target.

What system are you accepting the jobs from?
