Void Opal Hotspot but no Void Opal?
So for two days straight, I've been trying to farm for Void Opals due to the nerf to LTD but the hotspots I go to, I haven't found a single asteroid with a void opal core. Even when flying direct center to the hotspot, it almost as if the devs made Void Opals in their own hotspot super rare to find. I'm not the only one who feels like Void Opals have been made to appear very less often right?

I have mined only one time after the nerf in a Void Opal hotspot and I found some cores...and one LTD core, btw, it was funny. But I usually laser mined, so I can't say if the porcentage has changed dramatically.

I get more ores doing NPC piracy and it's more fun, the only problem is to sell the blood diamonds with these ridiculous market prices.

Is it a high traffic area?

Im out in colonia and its a field day for VO's because of low population. I have heard but not confirmed if you want to find a good VO location it has to be low population(NPCs) and pristine ring. Does not need to be overlapping.

But yeah prices have tanked so you have your work cut out for you. I put my mining Corvette in the drydock for awhile and am grinding combat rank in my Mamba.

It not a high traffic area, but at the same time it not far in deep space where there is total anarchy. Funny that you ask because just recently I found one void opal core going back to the game (only got like 14t worth though). Bought myself a Feddie Gunship and I wanna upgrade the thing after doing a maiden flight. I use to use a Python for mining (it now my to go cargo ship) but I have an Anaconda for that job and currently just farming whatever I can make for money atm. Even gone back to farming LTD since they're still valuable, but also began farming for other material like grandiderite since the nerf also seem to inadvertedly buff the other materials. I might eventually do this for maybe a month straight so I can also buy myself a Krait II, and/or Fer de Lance.

In the op you say even when flying direct centre of the hotspot. From my experience so far its best to drop out a long way from the centre, i go for about 900km. Then boost your way towards centre covering a lot of ground. If you just prospect really bright glowing ones you should be hitting cores very often. Im hitting at least every 10 mins, but i use a fast medium ship to cover ground quicker :)

Seems to me I have to search a lot harder for them now.

Don't fly directly to the center. The visible hotspot area you see as you look at the ring from supercruise is the actual size of the hotspot. If you go right to the center you're going where everyone else will go.

You still won't find a huge number of cores, mind, but you'll find more if you maintain a distance from the center.

But yeah cores seem to be pretty rare. I am told you can speed up your search significantly by only probing specific asteroids that "look right" however.
Some hotspots are simply "dry", need to keep looking for VO hotspots until you find one that's productive.

In my case, if I don't find a fissure asteroid every 5-10 minutes, I pack up and go somewhere else.
