Matching your speed to target's
I just started the game a few days back. The last space sim I played was Freespace 2 and X-wing VS Tie Fighter back in late 90s, so its been a while.

Im just practicing how to fight and realised that back in the time in those game there was an option after you targeted anything, you could match your speed to theirs by pressing only one button.

This helps a lot when you get at someones tail, you just press a button, speed matched pew pew.

Went through the configs but couldnt really find this bind. Does it even exist?

It doesn't exist in this game. It's not as easy to match speeds in this game, either.

Matching speeds is not what you wany to do.

Matching the speed is what I wanna do believe me. It could be not the right thing to do tho.

There is no method to automatically capture the object's speed and synchronize to it.
Except when is supercruise, travelling among bodies

In dogfights, you develop this skill with practice.

Your opponent is always changing speeds and vectors.
Since different ships have different inertia and thruster capabilities (main, lateral, side, et.c.), the "dance" wouldn't have been equal, even if this synchronization function were to exist. Effectively making it void of purpose

Yeah, that kind of tech on a $60m space ship would be way too advanced. Like having cruise control on a car with collision avoidance for only $60m 🤣

Yeah, you also really hone the ability to destroy your joystick and thruster, constantly changing speed and banking hard to shoot the AI enemy that just flies around you in circles or boosts away from you constantly and jousts with you (if your lucky enough for them to actually bother attacking you instead of just running away)

I just love the way the bullets not only randomly stop in space at a certain range with no opposing force, but they're not even comparable with weapons we already have on earth that have to fight gravity and wind resistance. Like, could I just get a 2x scope maybe, considering we already have 50x magnification sniper rifle scopes on earth 🤣

I guess if it wasn't for the having to constantly change speed and direction every 2 seconds, the combat would be even more mundane on account of there not really being ANY strategy other than jousting and flying in a constant circle 🤣

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
