Type-9 Survivability
What would be the ideal build so I can run away from NPC pirates?

At the moment I cannot invest in engineering.

Base configuration even with full cargo load of 736t. is pretty good for evading pirates in supercruise.

Flying the Space Cow, I always recommend having a High Wake jump set (Jump to another system) as this does not suffer from mass lock. This type of ship can not run from a fight, once combat is engaged you either high wake or die.

WHY can't you do engineering? You know engineering is just gathering materials right? So you are saying you can't be bothered to gather materials...yet you are in a Type 9, well I have an inkling as to HOW you got it.

There is a lot to keep track off and I'm a bit discouraged by how huge the engineering grind looks. I just want to try a bit of trading here and here to see if I like it. Spent way too much time mining with my type-10 for my liking. (Yes, because for me a type-10 is a mining ship. Go figure. XD)

I don't do cargo builds per se, closest I've gotten is an armored cargo T-10, so I can't help you with something very specific.

However, I would recommend that you install a fighter bay because the fighters can be a great distraction after you sic them on the pirates while you run away. Preferably pick one of the ship-launched fighters with Chaff. You don't have to recall them before jumping either, just sic them on the pirate and make your escape, then jump away as soon as you're able.

That said, assuming NPC pirates, do try to shake off the interdiction first.

In your case its all about shields and speed, T9 has a very bad agility in case of interdiction. Basically if you are A rated on Thrusters, power distributor and shield, NPC interdicting you should not outclass your build.

I went ahead and A-rated a couple of parts. Added military composite armor and 4 shield boosters. I certaintly hope this will cut it.

In my opinion you just make it worse. By adding all this stuff you make your ship even more heavier. So it decrease you jump range even more. It means more time wasted on additional jumps between star systems. And more chances to be interrupted by pirates.
Type 9 is not a combat ship. It is heavy clumsy trader. And it's realy good at trading.
Your goal is to evade combat but not try to survive it.

"A" rated thrusters and big capacitor is good if you are going to do Tritium trade routs. You buy Tritium and sell it to nearby Fleet Carriers (in current or nearby star systems). It allows you to dock and undock realy fast. And you don't need long jump range to travel far distances.
In all other situations you need to minimise your weight and increase your jump range by all means necessary.

I would at least look into engineering your FSD as the T9 has an appalling jump range, especially if you have stuck military grade armour on it. May be also engineer the shields as well.

Ill drop the armor then. Thanks for the input

Dude... NPC pirates, their AI is so easy to exploit. You do know that dumping a little bit of cargo will make them stop to pick it up right? Gives you plenty of time to run away.

Sometimes most obvious decisions are not obvious. It is brilliant. I forgot you can do that =)

I didn't know that.

The best way is to do engineering. I know you said you did not want to do that. I have 1000+ hours and every ship in the game including the Fleet Carrier. If you really want to do a cargo Hauler for trader. Go all in and do this:
FSD engineering for max jump range and Mass manager(experimental)
Thrusters A rated dirty drives with drag drives(experimental)
Power distributer A rated-Charge enhanced with Super Capacitors(experimental)
Power plant if you have enough power you can leave except Stripped Down(experimental)
LifeSupport D rated Lightweight
Sensors D rated Light Weight engineering
Armor Light weight no need for military Grade for this build
No need for utilities unless overheating when fuel scooping then grab a heat sink launcher
OPTIONAL SLOTS:
Put the lowest shields that will go on and make then Bi-Weave and then Reinforced(engineering). If you do not want to engineer them that is fine, but put (experimental) stripped down for better jump range and maneuverability or Fast charge if you think you will take attacks
Put a big fuel scoop then all your cargo racks

So here is how to use the build. The STRIPPED DOWN experimental that you added to the other parts will give you better roll, yaw and pitch rates combined with the dirty drives and drag drive experimental from the thrusters. If you get interdicted you should put your throttle in the BLUE zone and be able to do the mini game escape vector easier. If you mess up and are brought out of supercruise. Put 4 power in to ENG and 2 in SYS now with the charged enhanced power distributer with super capacitors you will be able to constantly hit the boost button. Also because of the dirty drives and lighter ship your boost speed should be fast and allow easy escapes. The 2 in SYS with BI-WEAVE Sheilds will charge faster keeping sheilds up longer as escaping too.
Also side note if you ever get Guardian Technology, go for Module blueprint and unlock Guardian FSD booster it will give you an additional 10.5 LY jump range. At the sacrifice of a tier 5 Optional slot.
