Elite Dangerous

Elite Dangerous

Just bought the game, only allowed to play demo (solved)
I got elite dangerous last night, but after activating my key, downloading the game and making my account I only get the option to play the demo? I saw that some people just had to select log out machine, and then login in through steam, but after doing this I'm still only getting the option to play the demo.

Has anyone here had anything similar? I've opened a ticket on the support website, but it's almost been 24 hours already and I still haven't gotten a response.

Many people, who have bought the key from unauthorized game resellers, have the same experience.

Steam doesn't sell this game's keys, cause since April 15th the authentication method has been changed. Steam still accepts those old-bought keys, but they can't do anything good to actually activate and to play the game. That's why you should buy only from authorised resellers - they don't sell outdated keys.

Your option is to wait for the Frontier support to look at your case, and they might activate it for you. It may take several days, depending on how busy they are.

Hello,

Tickets can take up to 72 hrs to reply. It depends how busy support are, but they will get to you as soon as they can!

Thanks for the reply. I actually managed it solve it myself, had to go into account management, and fill the keys in myself in the last tab on the left, after entering my keys i had access to the full game after i logged in with my frontier account in the launcher.

I was planning on deleting this thread, but maybe leaving it up will help some future users who encounter the same problem.

Only "Play Demo" Option
Yo!
So I bought ED some months ago, haven't gotten around to it. Now I want to play, a launcher pops up and asks me to link an account. So I create that account. Now the launcher only gives me the option to "Play Demo". What am I doing wrong?

when you bought it in the frontier store you have to sign in with your frontier account (in the ED launcher). When you bought it on steam, you have to login with your steam account, because the license to play the game is on the account you bought it on. I hope that'll help you...

You probably closed the launcher or webbrowser while doing the linking; it invalidates the session.

If you can't get it to work, just send a ticket to support; they'll sort it out.

cheers

Got it sorted out - had to update the Frontier account with an actual billing address, then paste the product key. What a hassle. Never going to get one of their products again ): (

That is quite standard fare for a non-steam online game tbh.

Quite a lot of older games still have the CD key pop up, from before steam properly integrated key management. So either you're new (in which case welcome) or you just don't have many games on steam...

All that GFWL crap, Uplay games, they all use their own CD keys for games that you've bought on Steam. This is no different, apart from having to copy and paste it into their website instead of the game. And you don't even have to do that anymore since they properly integrated account linking (doesn't apply to games bought before hand).

i bought a steam product key for Elite Dangerous: Commander Deluxe Edition via ♥♥♥, installed it via steam, created a frontier account, linked it with my steam account...but still only get 'play demo' option. cant find a key to register with frontier so now stuck. raised a ticket but still waiting...

Only Humble Bundle are licensed resellers, so that is why it doesn't work.

IF you are really lucky, support may help you, but do not expect anything...

Always check your sources.

Yep - don't buy from sources that have even their names to be censored out on Steam, if you don't want to have authentication problems.
