How to play music from in-game audio player (Max 19 songs, mediocre sound quality)
Ok so here's how you do it:

WARNING: the songs won't sound really good (distortion)

-Step 1:

Download the songs you want and convert them to .WAV (you can only put 19 songs in total because you're actually replacing the current GALNET audio files and I don't know how to or if it's even possible for me to make more of these).

-Step 2:

Download Wwise here https://www.audiokinetic.com to convert the .WAV files into .WEM files (tutorial on how to do that here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=39Oeb4GvxEc )

-Step 3:

Go to C:\Users\(user name)\AppData\Local\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\audio_reports\GALNET and make a backup of that folder, take the .WEM music file that you want and change the name of that file to one of the 19 files in the GALNET folder.

-Step 4:

Remove the .WEM extension from the audio file name so that the game can actually play the audio. Et Voilà!

PS: .MP3 and .WAV files don't work, that's why you have to convert it to .WEM

Uh… so since that only holds a handful of songs, requires futzing with transcoding, and doesn't even sound good, I gotta ask… how is that better than running any normal media player in the background and controlling it with hotkeys?

idk man I just found a way to do it (pretty easy tbh) and decided to post it, if there's going to be somebody who doesn't care about all of that, then now he has a way to do it. I don't really mind the quality myself, I just find it cool that I actually have a "music player" in my ship

And how it sounds? Like through regular player, or filtered, like it plays in your cockpit?
Audio books might be good for the filtered sounding.

the GALNET has a distortion effect for the voice reading the news, so that distortion is also applied to the music unfortunatly, I'm trying to find a way to turn that ♥♥♥♥ off, but I don't think I'll find a way

Considering the poor sound quality and as Shadowdancer said "futzing" with the files and coding I think I will just stick to alt/tab and Pandora.
