Elite Dangerous
Unpopular question: Generating money?
I know, I know! Before anyone comes about and says "Damn dude, just play regularly", let me explain why I ask this.

About a week or two ago, a good friend of mine wanted to start playing ED. He said he would appreciate if I could start anew for him so we are on a similar level. I obliged because you don't want to let a fellow friend down. Well, it turns out he couldn't play this game properly, and even on lowest settings he ran it at 20FPS in busier zones, namely stations in that regard, which left him frustrated and not wanting to play it anymore. Meanwhile, I sit here, having downgraded my account from having a ton of money and a good ship to basically my trusty sidewinder with nothing really on it.

I was considering road to riches and I am already busy doing so, but getting to the point where it actually becomes beneficial (jumping range, fuel tank, etc.), it will take yet another 60+ hours.

Well, now here is the question: In what extend (if at all) is generating money through third party programs tolerated? I am mostly playing Solo, and not planning on going to public anytime soon.

I'd appreciate non-toxic answers. And no accusations, because nothing has happened yet, literally. Just sitting in a station.

Kind regards - Nightsky

Get yourself a type 6.... they are really cheap as I expect everyone knows. Set it up for mining. Prospector limpets, collector limpets, refinery and mining lasers.

Then go here: http://edtools.ddns.net/miner

Plug in the system you are currently at and it will give you locations with overlapping painite hotspots. Literally roughly every 2 or 3 rocks has loads of painite. Void opals are more complicated to mine and they really aren't as profitable as an overlapping painite spot.

I can fill 512 tons in my Cutter in maybe 2 or so hours. That link also shows you the closest places to sell as well. I am getting roughly 400 mil per trip in the Cutter. If you get a type 6 you will be able to upgrade to a better ship very very fast......

Edit: you need a detailed surface scanner too in order to find the hot spots once you get to the system. But the link tells you exactly which ring and planet to check out....

It is a direct violation of the license agreement between you and Frontier, so you already agreed in a legally binding fashion not to do it:

3. Licence Restrictions
You are not permitted:

(c) use cheats, automation software, hacks, mods, or any other unauthorized software designed to modify or defeat the purpose or experience of the Game;
Ignoring the fact that your story is bogus... No it isn't tolerated and you shouldn't do it.
The story is true. Because I reset my account to be on par with someone else, who couldn't play the game. Where I wish we had multiple saving slots so we can built up multiple commanders.

But nothing to be done about it. I just have to get myself a jumper Diamondback Scout again and do it the old fashioned way of exploring everything. for a couple of hours.

Thanks for the answers though.
Especially since you can generate infinite money in game without cheating.
Overlapping Painite hot spots. That's all I have to say about generating money in Elite at the moment.
Hmm. Seems like there is something going around as of late. Haven't played for over 6 months now I believe, except for the few weeks ago for a few minutes. What is this "Painite hot spot" you are talking about?
If you want to generate money fast without any cheat, the best is creating a normal mining ship and search an opal or low temperature diamond spot, and mine them. This the fastest way. CarefuL! Not core mining (too slow), only normal laser mining and collector + prospector
Has mining gotten this popular and good as of late? I mean the best I knew of 6 months ago was Road to Riches. And what is a good low-tier mining ship? Talking about 4mil budget. Finishing this road should give me enough.
That story gave me a nice chuckle. You restarted to accomodate your friend and now your friend doesn't want to play. If I were you I'd never let him live that down. (of course I would't have restarted)

Anyways, the simple way to make money is just to run a few transport missions in your sidewinder, (maybe data transport) till you can afford a Cobra. Then outfit it for core mining and mine for void opals or low temp diamonds till you can afford a keelback or AspX. Do more core mining with that till you can afford a Krait or Python and core mine with that till you're rich again.

Jack's suggesting of overlapping painite hotspots might generate more money if you can find one and have a decent size cargo hold, but in a small ship you need to go for stuff that's got a high value per ton. It's common for opals to sell for 650 to 750k each and they can sell for up to 1.6m.
Low temp Diamonds often sell for 500k each and it's not unusual for them to sell for 950k.

As for using cheats to generate money, you're probably not going to get much sympathy on that since you gave away your fortune and now want to make yourself rich again with no effort.

Also, next time you've got a friend that wants to play together, there's nothing stopping an advanced player from flying a small ship with their friends. You could also be more help to him by being rich as you can easily give him a boost with your better ships. (multicrew combat, abandon a few mil worth of cargo for him to pick up)
Instead of going down to his level, help him get up to yours.
That is if I ever get a friend again that wants to play together. Those who play regularly play it on Xbox or PS. I got two people who play it on PC semi regularly but they usually play together already. Planning on buying the game to my partner but yeah, chances are they don't play it either.

Well, I shall try my luck with mining then. Seems like something that would go faster than R2R. Thanks for the answers!
If you haven't done core mining yet, maybe watch a video or 2 on Youtube so you know what you're looking for. Once you get up to a keelback of Aspx, 30 to 40 mil per session isn't unreasonable.
Also, if you've already got friends on the PC that play, why not just join them? There's nothing that says a group can only be 2 people. Some of the multicrew ships even support 3 players. and I know wings can be at least 4.

Thank you very much, that is very much appreciated. Soon this trip is over, then I will set up a mining ship. I expect the budget to be around 8 mil actually, from what I can see. I think with this I will get back to my old state very quickly.

I would suggest you get started on this pretty soon. There is no telling how long Frontier will let this work. Seems like real money making things tend to get nerfed after a while.

My suspicion is that they will leave this for a while though. I am thinking this is in the game so people can earn enough money for the Fleet Carriers coming in December. But that’s just a guess.

Also YouTube “overlapping Painite”. Lots of good info there too. Hope you get back on your feet soon. 😀
Yeah Painite is a good money maker at the moment, with a load of say 100t of Painite you can make between 78-80mill. Then save up for a bigger ship, more cargo slots, and make bank.
