Farming lvl 5 Raw Materials?
Once again I find myself low on materials and flying back to a crashed anaconda to log in and out for a few hours, slowly and painfully collecting materials..
Does anyone know of a better way? This is often the way I hear recommended, which makes me think the alternatives are either slower, or somehow more boring.. Missions tend to be too slow..
I saw one post saying volcanic sites produce lots of valuable resources, but idk of that'll be worth while.. Even a small handful of lvl 5 materials is worth SO much more than anything else,,

Have you tried geological sites? Some needle minerals can give you high grade mats.

Actually no, what are those and how do they work..? I'm kind of assuming they're like mining rocks or meta-alloys, but I've never mined meta-alloys and don't really know how these sites work.. Are high grade drops common from certain sites?

There are some crystals "growing" on little landscape structures, and by shooting at them they produce raw mats. Different crystals give different mats. You want spiky, "sea urchin"-like ones - they give the rarest mats. Each of them produces only one mat, but they are concentrated around the geological site, so you don't need to drive around long distances, looking for outcrops.

Just land at a geological site, go into an SRV, and drive around. You will see how it goes at place.
HGE are as common as mud now, rock spawns on planets are about the same also
farm your mats from bounty hunting and other activities you do and there should be no need to do much trading down these days
mat farming is so easy now, I have thrown the limpet controllers out of all my ships, bar miner
nor do I bother going 500+++ly to get them
I leave countless amounts of G4-5 material lying scattered around the bubble near me it is a joke

Wait, can ships drop lvl 5 raw materials? I almost never do missions, finding other ways of getting by, but normally I find ships dropping processed materials. I know there are places to farm those, where lots of large ships spawn, but raw materials?
Also thanks for the advice, I’ll look into those.

Nope, his comment is either generic or bit out of place for the topic at hand.

For raw mats, you typically want to find the most resourceful planet with highest portion of the mat in question or ones with them geologic sites as suggested above.

For time efficient farming of everything else, there's this guide:

I mean there's so many different ways, but yeah most of them are boring and often require logging in order to make them worth while.

There are a couple sources that, at least, provide more than one thing at the same time...

Laser mining of Painite in a double hotspot overlap is clearly the quickest way to make credits in the game but also provides more (low grade) raw materials than you can carry. Here's a great tool to find those overlaps: http://edtools.ddns.net/miner

Distribution Centers (when you can find one in an anarchy system) can be a great way to get manufactured and encoded materials. These occur in systems in Famine. There will be 3 Type-9's giving out food to NPC ships. Destroy the Type-9's for manufactured and scan the wakes of the NPC ships for encoded. The Type-9's won't defend each other so you can kill them one at a a time and they will respawn after you kill them. The endless stream of NPC ships coming and going makes for great wake scanning while waiting for the Type-9's to respawn.

Commander Exigeous's video (shown above by Arc) highlights very fast ways to gather each of the grade 5 materials but for raw, does require a 1500ly journey.

When you get bored of these methods, bounty hunting in a RES site (other than HAZRES) results in NPC police helping with the killing of pirates. While this makes the task of bounty hunting a little too easy, it provides more than enough time to use collector limpits to harvest the manufactured materials dropped by the pirates while also getting bounties to turn in. Just be sure to add stolen items to your limpits ignore list or those helpful police will make you their next target.

I used to harvest mats while bounty hunting, so I’m mostly set when it comes to manufactured materials. It’s just the raw (and sometimes data) resources I don’t often find. Some mission will offer like, two lvl 5 materials, but that’s like nothing.. I need dozens of them,,

Whoaaa, big thanks Rogue. I’ll give this a look!

I don't think there is any level 5 raw materials. Just data/manufactured materials.
