Just land at a geological site, go into an SRV, and drive around. You will see how it goes at place.
farm your mats from bounty hunting and other activities you do and there should be no need to do much trading down these days
mat farming is so easy now, I have thrown the limpet controllers out of all my ships, bar miner
nor do I bother going 500+++ly to get them
I leave countless amounts of G4-5 material lying scattered around the bubble near me it is a joke
Also thanks for the advice, I’ll look into those.
For raw mats, you typically want to find the most resourceful planet with highest portion of the mat in question or ones with them geologic sites as suggested above.
For time efficient farming of everything else, there's this guide:

There are a couple sources that, at least, provide more than one thing at the same time...
Laser mining of Painite in a double hotspot overlap is clearly the quickest way to make credits in the game but also provides more (low grade) raw materials than you can carry. Here's a great tool to find those overlaps: http://edtools.ddns.net/miner
Distribution Centers (when you can find one in an anarchy system) can be a great way to get manufactured and encoded materials. These occur in systems in Famine. There will be 3 Type-9's giving out food to NPC ships. Destroy the Type-9's for manufactured and scan the wakes of the NPC ships for encoded. The Type-9's won't defend each other so you can kill them one at a a time and they will respawn after you kill them. The endless stream of NPC ships coming and going makes for great wake scanning while waiting for the Type-9's to respawn.
Commander Exigeous's video (shown above by Arc) highlights very fast ways to gather each of the grade 5 materials but for raw, does require a 1500ly journey.
When you get bored of these methods, bounty hunting in a RES site (other than HAZRES) results in NPC police helping with the killing of pirates. While this makes the task of bounty hunting a little too easy, it provides more than enough time to use collector limpits to harvest the manufactured materials dropped by the pirates while also getting bounties to turn in. Just be sure to add stolen items to your limpits ignore list or those helpful police will make you their next target.
