Ship not using full jump length
I'm relatively new, and I need some help figuring this out (yes I did try googling it, didn't find anything helpful)

My current ship has a jump range of about 19 LY, but when I'm plotting a course to somewhere, but whenever I set a course it only jumps lengths half of that. I would like to shorten the amount of jumps I need to take, reducing my travel time. How to I use my full jump length?

have you checked if you're using economical routing? should be under the second tab of the galaxy map. if it's set to economical, it restricts jump length when plotting to conserve fuel. switch to fast routing to use your full jump distance.

Also don't forget that you have a maximum jump range (no cargo, almost no fuel), and a real current jump range that can be smaller, depending on how much extra weight you carry (cargo adds to it, even full fuel tanks reduce your jump range).

You don't mention what ship you're flying, but with a lot of small ships you can increase your jump range at a fairly low cost by putting D rated components in most slots. They're the lightest you can get and don't usually cost much more than the E rated stuff the ship comes with.
Buy the best FSD you can afford.
When you're ready to upgrade to a bigger ship, refit your old ship with E rated components first and you'll get back all you spent on the upgraded stuff. Modules sell for 100% of the purchase price, but you'll take a loss on the ship and any modules installed. I think it's 90% of the value, but not sure.

Your jump range you say is 19ly - you are plotting courses to places of that or greater distance from you, yes? If the system you're trying to jump to is only say, 10ly from you, then you ain't gonna see jumps of greater than 10ly.

This is an unnecessary step. The resale value is 90% on the empty hull and 100% on components, even those attached to a hull being sold.

well, it may have changed at some point but , there was a time when it DID matter if you downgraded your modules first. To check and see if this is still true, look at what they are offering you for you ship,, and then strip it down and sell it.... I did that and noticed a BIG difference in credits but it has been a good while back.

but it's simple to check and see for yourself just do the math

You are probably using the economical route, but if you are a newer player like me i recommend keeping the econominal routes on becuase if not you will be calling the fuel rats sooner than later.

If you have Fuel Scoop, you can plan your route through in-game filter and jump only through systems with scoopable stars in them.
