Trade rank?
ok dont laugh at me for asking this but: Is there any better way to gain trade rank than trading? Ive spent two hours looping and I went up 2%... i know there is pirating as well but are those the only two ways to gain rank right know?

what ship are you doing your trade run in?

You gain trade rank with passengers too. It can be even easier that way, if you'll be making more money with passengers.

I should add that this is only relevant to transport missions. Unless something has changed tourism missions add to your exploration rank instead.

Yes, I meant transport type, like the most know bulk passengers.

Cargo delivery, the missions where they actually give you the cargo counts towards Trade rank.

I know, it doesn't make a lick of sense sincce there is no actual haggling done on your end, but whatever.

Trade rank is odd in that you can rank up without actually trading on the commodies market. If you gain allied status with most factions in any system then haul cargo missions back and forth in a "boom" economy you will gain 1% for every 10 million you make in mission rewards. The odd part about it is "its not actually trading so your trade stats don't go up as to how much proifit you made but your trade rank goes up regardting your run to elite status.

A added feature is, if you run between Sothis and Ceos you will gain Federal Navy rank and also gain alliance status with Sirius Corporation which is handy when you unlock the engineer Marco Qwent.

do bulk passenger missions you want to to find a place that you can make 20 million and hour doing bulk passengers like Rhea. i know its nerfed but you can make money there. in the last rank before elite its like 6 million a % point so it will make 600 million to get to elite at that point. its easier then combat that rank up to elite is insane. i guess wing trade missions will work i have heard you can make some fast cash there right now.

As others say, passengers transport missions. I popped Elite in trade without even realising it, just from running a load of passenger transport missions (I was already quite high from trading).

TBH, it's a pretty boring career however, so you may need to mix it up a bit!

You can try your hand in...... MINING!

Seriously, is kinda slow. Also for the Ceos/Sothis thing, lug some passenger cabins with you (or store and transfer them, dont think either sells them) and you can also do the very short sightseeing mission which often spawns Bromollite and Modular Terminals as a reward which also are requested by Engineer, including Marco Qwent as mentioned by Skinny.

wow i should log on more often! thanks for all the comments. im using a cutter for thoes who asked. also ive gotten a big part of rank from doing bulk passenger but than the huge nerf hit and now the prices are so low i dont think its worth it. ill have to look into the wing delivery missions..

Just to throw in some comments as I did most of my trading ranks before things such as passenger missions existed.

Imperial Slave "Taxi" is always a good one, buy legal in an Empire system and sell them in a black market somewhere. Mining is kinda sucky, but, if you don't care what you mine that then it is essentially all profit, and you fill your hold much faster than aiming just for the expensive stuff.

If you see some missions wanting some more commonly mined material, thats a bonus.

Spamming courier and similar missions is a great way if you can find a nice repeatable route.

And of course, the lost art, Rares trading. Made millions in an Asp Ex doing rares, and picked up some exploration rank/cash on the way.

I just looked at the patch notes for 3.0.3 and saw "increased payout for bulk passenger missions" so maybe there is hope!

I got most of my Elite trading rank from mining. In a cutter, it should not be a problem to get more than 10 mil/hr. Just takes some skill to be efficient and to find the right place to sell everything in the end. :)
