What you need to look for is a triple hotspot for Low Temperature Diamonds (LTDs). Currently there are several known locations. Mining in a spot where 3+ hotspots intersect greatly increases your chances to find good asteroids.
Remember this site, a miner's friend.
New hotspots are in:
(from the closest to the more remote)
COL 285 SECTOR CC-K a38-2, planet 1, 2nd ring (triple hotstpot)
COL 285 SECTOR XN-D a28-2, planet A10 (triple hotspot)(might've changed, possibly ignore)
SWOILZ PK-R B20-0, planet 1 (quadruple and triple hotspots)
They're a bit far off, so you might want to consider selling to the carriers that buy diamonds nearby that location.
your a god amongst men
No one mentioned this unsure why not but do NOT mine in a small or large ship use a Medium. FOR LTD's the best ship would be a Python.
demand vs your cargo affects payout so strongly for Painite and LTDs, as well as benefits for medium pad access.
1/ can be a bug, quite usual those days. Sometimes i got no highlighted spots even in exploration mode or knowing there is one there. Try exit and come back ingame
2/ wait for next patch as it will modify spots again, looks like jumping right in the midle might be the new thing
3/ some rings have no hotspots
