If at all it's a democratic thing and others are asked if the jump is OK. And if majority klicks "No" then it will stay where it is.
You can appoint an Officer to plot jumps as well.
Leader has Initial control
The Squadron Leader has the ability to appoint Officers with various privilidges.
One of those privildges is the ability to Plot jumps for the Carrier, as well as purchase upgrades for it.
Don't even know if this is possible. You can't destroy Megaships, and if you pick a fight with even an outpost station, you're gonna have a bad time.
yes, so the squad leader can give some "officers" the privilege but can take it from them, too.
purchase upgrades... hmm, that implies that there will be some sort of fleet carrier inventory or bank with which you buy the upgrades. Massive commodity grind incoming.
If they are detructable I don't see even how large groups could defend them. Even groups like the Diamond Frogs wouldn't be able to provide perfect coverage, even if such destruction was limited to Open mode (which would be a bit bizarre).
You have modes, platforms, instancing, block lists, timezones, etc, all which conspire against protecting a destructable fleet carrier.
My guess is, they won't be destructable at all. What FD might do is the same as you can do with mega ships, destroy little parts (that respawn) for materials.
This update is for non-singleplayer part of the game
Why is that a problem?
Just like Wing missions ware for multiplayer aspect, with less use in singleplayer. You'll still get something out of it, you'll be able to land on some I'm sure, but you don't get the full experiance because you chose not to play the full game.
That one can play alone without other people is a different story.
Maybe you will be able to buy a fleet carrier if you are alone in your squadron... but I bet it's hugely expensive and/or costly or time consuming to maintain.
Jumping one LY with that thing may cost hundreds of tons of hydogen fuel for example. Upgrading it will need humongous amounts of commodities. Repairing it... you get the idea.
People could raid it if it's a stationary object in the galaxy and destroy its modules if you park it in the wrong spot. You will have to repair them.
I don't see the point in a single person having such a game time consuming swag ship.
There's no way it's even going to be practical for a single person to purchase/maintain/jump a carrier by themselves. Just accept that solo is the most limiting of the modes, park at a coriolis in a system you fancy and call it home.

Is not exactly a new thing where you can't play certain elements of a game alone
