how to target thrusters (modules?) (...there are multiple 'drivers' modules??)
so when I look at a target's module's, looking for thrusters, I don't find them. ...but I do find 2-4 'drivers' modules (I think that's what they were called) that seemed distinct from the FSD.

so is that them?? ... why do NPCs have multiple thrusters? I can only have one thruster.

... should I even bother taking out a driver if they have multple? ..are these lat/vert thrusters or something? how do i know which is which?

Many ships physically have multiple main thrusters on the ship model, with one 'drive' per main engine. For example many ships have 2 engines at the back, some like the Asp Scout have 1, the Alliance Chieftain/Crusader has 4 engines, so you'll see 2, 1, and 4 drives for them.

Every drive shows the health of the thrusters module, so if you shoot 1 drive down to 50%, the ship's thrusters will be at 50%, and so will all the other drives, even if you didn't hit any other drive.

You can shoot all drives equally or just shoot 1, all damage will go to the 1 thruster module and when that hits 0% the thrusters are completely offline, and the ship is adrift.

Every time I've taken out a ship's drives, the ship didn't stop... instead the ship stuck in full-throttle without any type of attitude control. It simply flew in a straight line, as fast as it could go.

Is it possible that taking out the drives is more like taking out the power distributor? When the power distributor is destroyed everything still works but the pilot can't adjust his pips. Maybe taking out the drives just takes away the pilot's control over the thrusters?

You are in space and inertia is preserved. If you take out a ships thrusters it can't decelerate, so it will continue at its currently speed and direction.

Try turning FA off, go full speed and then zero your throttle. The same thing will happen.
