Ramming into a planet while supercruising
Has anyone ever tried that?

Emergency drop out of supercruise will happen.

Attention: You WILL damage your ship. Usually only minor damage.... haven't tried that at speed 1000c or more though.... i believe damage will be more or less depending on your impact-speed.

Yes happens with asteroid belts too.

Your FSD has countermeasures for this. And you'll take the same damage no matter the speed, I think.

if it didn't had a counter measure tho ...

Go nuts. I slam into them to save time sometimes. Hit one at 500c in my Vette, did 6 hull damage.

Of course, you could still then spend an hour slamming into it on thrusters.

I did that the other day doing Robigo passenger runs for some G5 mat farming.

Got distracted and hammered into Sirius Atmospherics at full throttle! Funny. Charged them extra for the thrills.

I don't think it is possible without a glitch in the matrix. Max speed in supercruise is capped by the gravity well you are in. There may be a system with a planet orbiting sufficiently far away from its parent star where you could perhaps achieve it but at a guess, that planet will need to be a million Ls or more from its parent star.

I've reached 1700c once and that was half way between two stars that were about 4 million Ls apart.

Kind of impossible to do. If you don't have Horizons, or it's not a planet you can land on, you'll just emergency drop.

I did, however, manage to fly straight through a star one time...

You can slam into a planet's surface from Supercruise if you get interdicted while travelling towards a planet. This happened to me today. However, I ended inside the planet's surface and the game simply placed me on the surface with minimal damage.

Yes, you slow down from top speed 2001c when closing in on the nearest celestial body. But you will still have a very high speed when you hit it. I also do not know whether every body affects you the same or if heavier/lighter objects affect your FSD more/less while you're approaching it with such speed.

This statement hints that my original assumption ".... i believe damage will be more or less depending on your impact-speed." would be correct.

Does anyone have more information or similar experiences? I am still over 60k Ly out and will NOT damage my ship unnecessarily :-)
