I don't get it :(
So I've now done a bit of progression. I've made almost 3 mil from bounties, I bought an adder, kitted it out for mining, I've gone to a system that edtools says is good for low temperature diamonds. I get there, I scan the ring but there's no overlapping hotspots so edtools lied to me? I go to the hotspot, I aim for the yellow/white because surely that means there's more diamonds there? I go there and the first 2 asteroids i prospect have diamonds, the following 9 or so have none. Now I'm out of limpets, 150LY away from the nearest station apparently and I'm wondering what I've done wrong.

what do you mean there were no overlapping hotspots ? did you go to the right system posted on edtools?
the system is Col 285 Sector CC-K a38-2 planet 1.

you didn't do anything wrong per say, the adder has this issue with not that many limpets to play with so you are always going to be fairly limited and if you didn't landed in the right spot you are probably not going to find many asteroids with LTD on it before running out of limpets. I had the exact same issue when i started doing my mining runs.

you can solve your lack of limpet problem without the need to go back to the bubble in 2 ways, first you can craft the limpets with synthesis (if you have the materials for it) and 2: in the system i mentioned above there are dozens upon dozens of Fleet Carriers parked there, you can dock in any of them and buy limpets.

you can even sell your LTD in there (for a very reduce price than what you would get if you travel all the way back to the bubble of course, but hey it migh t be worth it to save time going back to the bubble)
Adder, that's what you did wrong.
You need a bigger ship to mine in. A Type-6 might be able to do it, an Asp can.
Don't do it if it isn't fun though. That sounds like a struggle.
Instead of following various how-to make lots of money, just play your own game the way that you want. This way you will learn the game, too.

You need a bigger ship with more cargo space to carry more limpets. I just completed a haul with a Python for $124M credits in that same system. Its the first planet's rings that has three diamond hotspots close by. Use your pulse wave scanner (you have that right?) to pick out the mineral dense asteroids and then use their prospector limpets.

We can help.

Asteroid Defeated,

Let me know if you want friends who do stuff in space.

If ya are still close to that system, I can pull out my mining asp- and see if I can help ya.

Core mining is a way to make big bucks, and apparently it's really easy according to some folk around here.

So long as you don't take into account what it actually takes to get into a position where you can do it in a meaningful way.

Small ship can get you started, but it will be a lot of work and take way more time.

You'll want to work toward a bigger ship, probably want to get your FSD engineered as well.

Collect materials so you can synthesise limpets and seismic launcher ammo if you run out.

You will have a better time if you prepare properly first, but that will take time and effort.

Many folk around here like to make it sound like it's easy to just jump in and start making hundreds of millions a trip. It isn't, as you have found out.

Good luck Helios, the big bucks are there to be had, but you need to do a little ground work first.

LTD mining has to be cracking cores or getting subsurface deposits, stuff mined with normal mining lasers takes forever to yield a single LTD.

I take 100 prospector limpets out with me, my best run so far after using all limpets, was 4 core asteroids. My worst run was no core asteroids after 50 limpets.

So its not like youl drop in and find core after core, it can take a while to find them. When you do find them its a cool payday though. Core can drop like 14 LTD's if cracked properly, and at 1.6/1.8 mill each its worth the wait :)

I'm trying to do some core mining now but I can't tell if the asteroids have fissures or not.
Karmaterrorᵁᴷ Jun 20, 2020 @ 5:05am
Finding cores goes like...

Ping pulse wave scanner
Find a strong glowing asteroid
Fire prospector
Target prospector
If asteroid has a core then you will see it in red at the bottom of the list, "Core detected: Low temprature diamonds"
If no core you will just have stuff written in blue and need to check more roids :)

PS you have your siesmic charge launcher and abrasion blaster onboard for cracking the roid, then freeing the deposits?

Whenever I find deposits they're never LTD though, they're always the other useless stuff.
Karmaterrorᵁᴷ Jun 20, 2020 @ 5:41am
LTD cores are rare, like i said iv scanned 50 roids before and not found a single LTD core. Just be patient and keep prospecting the brighter glowing ones, you will find a core eventually :)

The way i understand it....Is core mining is not worth it (compared to the other ways)
SSD's were making 400 million per hour after the carrier update, but even after the nerf, that should still be atleast 200 million per hour.
Surface mining should net you 100 million per hour, and it's easier to find asteroids, thus less frustrating.
Core mining was good about a year or so ago when Void Opals were the meta, but Core mining LTD's is less efficient than the other methods....and also more frustrating!

If you don't have a big (ish) ship OP, id just trade Tritium until you can afford something that can hold ~100 limpets....then go diamond hunting o7
Helios Jun 20, 2020 @ 7:35am
So I just did a LTD run and netted 64+m, I go back to the exact same spot 40 limpets in I've found only 3 asteroids with LTD's. I really don't understand this, I'm in an overlapping hot spot and I can't find any LTD roids.
Stelar Seven Jun 20, 2020 @ 7:45am
Core asteroids are rare, a lot rare. It's really fun to blow them up, but the least profitable way to get LTD right now.

All cores, except Bromolite and Tritium, pay .5 mil + per thing so If you see one I say crack it.

If you want money faster, use mining lasers and have a subsurface missile launcher. Get to the triple hot spot too. Doubles just aren't as good.
