best settings for a mad catz 1.0 or new joystick?
so am new to flight sims, had a mad catz sitting around, thought it worked fine, but seems theres not enough buttons here....am at the part in the tutorial where i have to warp and there is no "joy 8" on this stick (even though thats what its saying to press) to...uh put away the guns (I dont know what its called)
so i set it to another button, now I have to jump warp , can't do that either without setting the buttons....
ok so is this just not going to work with this stick, or am I missing something?
thanks if you can help

I use the Mad Catz V.1 and I use it with the keyboard and mouse. To retract the hard points use "U" use the "J" key to warp. Use the stick to fly and set the flight stick buttons for the use of weapons and sensors.

do you play VR? are these the only commands you use on Keyboard?
I kind of want a stick that controls everything, is that even possible ?

Use one(or more) of your buttons as a shift-key(buttonX+buttonY); plenty of options that way.
-make sure to be consistent in the mapping, or you may risk boosting when you need to speed down. ;)

ED supports almost all controllers out of the box(some VR controllers needs addon/HMD HQ tho); the only time a keyboard is needed is for system search and chat.

cheers

No, but you can map all the really important functions in a high level HOTAS. I have a Warthog and you don't need to touch the keyboard.

I use the Thrustmaster T16000 HOTAS, it's pretty damn good and not too expensive. The stick is an old but trusty design, the throttle was designed for Elite. And still, some functions are on the keyboard. Could probably use key combo to fix that, though, but as I don't play in VR it's not that big an issue. I also use a xbox controller to drive the ground vehicle, mostly because I'm more comfortable with it that way, it could be configured on the stick though.

There's something like a hundred possible commands, maybe even more. You won't need them all at the same time, but it's up to you to figure what you use with what, when, and what combination works best for you. It's kind of a rite of passage for beginners, really, so welcome to Elite :D

is it easier to play this game with a thrustmaster and a vr headset. as im seriously considering buying a hotus. iv'e tried to play this in vr and the keyboard is a nightmare unless i learn to use braille....

No and I use a lot of the key board with the stick. For VR I would suggest a HOTAS. That would be the only way I can think of to be able to program more buttons.
