Repair Limpets won't deploy
I was unable to run Elite Dangerous for probably 6+ months...and today I was finally able to get back to my Krait Phantom, which waited patiently on the surface of some dusty planet hundreds of light years from civilization.

After a quick brush up on keyboard controls (I couldn't remember how to take off and retract landing gear...etc.), I've managed to get back into the black, scoop some fuel, and make a FSD jump.

My hull is down to 64% from neglect, so I thought this would be a perfect opportunity to use a repair limpet for the first time.

I repaired and activated my Limpet Controller (3D).
My repair limpets are set for primary fire on group C.
I have 2/2 limpets set in the controller (according to the HUD).
I have four in cargo.
Fire is set to forward.

I set my fire mode to Combat...Hit the "U" key (mapped to deploy hardpoints, even though it's not a weapon).

It shows Repair 2/2 as the primary fire function for both combat and analysis mode.

I click LMB in both modes and nothing happens.
I try RMB, also nothing happens (disabled heat sink launcher on secondary).

Toggled to Analysis and tried again...Nothing.

I've gone through everything I can think of, but I can't get the repair limpet to deploy.

Since I've never used them before, it's possible I'm just incorrect in thinking they fire like a scanner or weapon.

I have noticed that I don't hear any voice indication when I deploy and retract hard points, or when I activated my shield. I did hear the "Fuel Scoop deployed" and "Fuel Scoop complete" voice indications just prior to coming to throttle-down to try the limpets.

Any suggestions of what to try next would be greatly appreciated.

Ah well...I guess they decided that they wanted players to have to come back to civilization from time to time. I suppose I'll have no trouble making it back (240+ jumps) with 64% hull...I made it out here with less than 3% degradation. Just have to be careful when scooping, and hope I don't get attacked when I get back to the bubble.

You can repair your own ship with Limpets, If you deploy them without an active target, the limpet will attempt to repair your ship.

Some people have had a bug where they do not work, logging in and out seems to fix it.

Repair Limpets can only be used to repair others never yourself.

Is this a recent change? I found videos from 2017 showing players repairing their own ships by not targeting anything.

I think so, I wasn't around in this game in the older days so the only limpets that can are Decontamination Limpets which is very little.

Are those the auto field maintenance?

AFMS is something different that repairs damaged modules not the hull.

Thanks...I just logged back into the game and was able to use a repair limpet on the first attempt. Repaired my hull from 64 to 100% in less than a minute, with about half the limpet lifespan remaining.

Maybe I won't rush back to the bubble just yet.

Don't rush. If you rush it - you will need more repair limpets.

No problem pal, happy hunting.
