5000 LY...
I just got access to Professor Pain. He needs a 5k marathon in order to work on my ships.
I've been playing for awhile, total time in game is well up in the weeks I'd imagine and I only have 700 LY from my starting point. I'm not really the kind of guy that likes long trips, funny as I am a trucker in RL HaHa...

Any idea on the best way to finish the race in a sane or rather a way that will keep me sane?

I did find this neutron star in Sirius but I'm not sure how to use it yet or if that's the right way to get this done. Maybe I'm missing something I should be reaching for out there that is 5k LY away?

I have an AspX, a Python, and an Anaconda all with 5* FSD... I could sac the AspX but I do love it... Probably my favorite but easily the easiest to rebuy.

I'm not really concerned about losing the X data. I have a Billion in the bank.

Put on some music while traveling, or if you got a second screen, watch your favourite series or something.

Problem solved.
The Sirius is only a White Dwarf - that's just a 50% boost, not really worth it. You may get real neutrons when you are out of the Bubble (the only Neutron star in the Bubble is the Lighthouse one).

You just have to jump 5000+Ly, not much else you can do. Use the Neutron boost in your Galaxy map plotter. It will try to plot your route through those stars.

You can suicide and choose a free Sidewinder as soon as you have reached the Professor's request. It will cost you your current engineered ship, but will save you the return. Just make sure that he is actually unlocked before suiciding - you don't want to do it all over again. ;)

Furthest I've been is to Sag A and back - about 25,000LY I think. Just started another trip, this time to Beagle Point.
Iliad speaks sense. Put on some tunes or watch a film. If you're not too concerned with honking and FSS scanning then it's a quick process - scoop, jump, scoop, jump.
As an explorer, scanning and mapping breaks the monotony of constantly jumping, but I know it's not everyone's cup of tea.
Music or films will make it go faster for you.

OK... I guess its the only way.

Anyone know of a base that far from the bubble?
I've gotten pretty good at honking and scooping, I guess would be a shame to lose all that data?

I hear DBX may have better jump range. I could swap my AspX fsd over and strip it out of all but necessities and plow my way out that way I guess.

You can get about 5Ly more out of the DBX.

But keep in mind - if you like to top your fuel after every jump, the DBX' smaller fuel scoop will be slowing you down. It will take the scooping more time than for you to realign with the next star. The Asp-X finishes scooping before you are realigned.

One more thing... I'm sitting at Quent's base now. I could re engineer my power plant on this Conda and then refit it or rather unfit it for best jump range right? That would get me a bit further quicker, bigger rebuy but worth it if it makes sense. The Conda can scoop way faster I think... If I spend the time refitting I should get a better jump range I think. Even fit a smaller powerplant, no need for guns or the fighter.

Sorry editing as I think this out...

Word of warning if you do watch a film. Don't get so taken in by it that you lose your game focus and end up getting a bit too close to a star when you come out of a jump lol.

Very true - Love my DBX but if there's one thing I wish I could improve, it would be the fuel scoop. Dang thing is slow.

Especially if it's a Neutron star. ;)

You guys have any numbers on the best case jump ranges possible for the AspX vs. the Conda. No need for a build just which one will get the best jump considering fastest scooping?

I'll just eat the rebuy.

Go to EDSM.net (the interactive galmap webpage)

Set up for neutron stars.

Do the neutron highway.

Highest jumprange is dbx & anaconda.
(dbx can be bought really cheap in wolf 406(IIRC))

cheers

With the best engineering they are almost on par about the jump range. The Anaconda will scoop faster, but it will turn around slower.

Personally, I probably would have chosen the DBX over the Anaconda for such a trip. For me a bit of waiting is less mentally damaging than a hard-turning ship every jump. :)

Actually, the Asp is the ship I took to Sag A. Was before I got my DBX. It was a while ago now, before things like the FSS came along. But I remember I got about 40 LY. That's with FSD engineering, NO shields OR weapons. Bare minimum.
Might be different now though. Haven't looked at my Asp since I got the DBX.

It is different now. My Asp-X has about 70Ly jump, with shields and an SRV.

Yeah thought so. If I wasn't so far from the bubble now, I'd be tempted to see if I can get more out of her with what we have now. Not going all the way back just for that though lol.
