Guardian gameplay
I unlocked some Guardian goodies last night and I must say that was the 2nd worst gameplay in this game I've ever come across not to be beaten out by the mind numbing play of ranking to get my Cutter.

The SRV is great except it is terrible in Guardian sites and then you get Guardian sentinels to mess with you and the whole experience is rage inducing. Not b/c it is difficult but rather unfair and clunky as ever.

I'm going to unlock all of it but it was extremely annoying. I just finished AC Odyssey and that game had some very mind numbing stupid quests but none of them were as annoyingly over the top as unlocking Guardian stuff.

Truly awful, FD. Truly awful. You can do better.

Perhaps you have your SRV controls mapped out wrong or didn't realise you can earn a lot of additional time to complete the objective. I found nothing unfair and clunky about the experience. In fact I found the whole Guardian site to goodies scenario actually haunting and rewarding.

My controls are fine. The gameplay is garbage. Sticking an SRV among an area with a ton of crap to get stuck on is not fun whilst throwing in sentinels to add to the mess. It is really bad. The SRV is fine for exploring surfaces but navigating Guardian sites is awful.

Have your ship nearby with a couple of PD units (placement is important). The PD will take out the sentinels projectiles making life a bit easier for you.

Never had any problems on Guardian sites. :happynorb:

Land your ship nearby which is outfitted with point defences.
You can also invite a friend which shoot the sentinels (from his ship obove) down -> i recommend Advanced Missile Racks 2B, because they can hold more ammo than the normal one.

I also drive in the turret mode around. It feels easier to navigate and aim around.

I just came back to the game and started the Guardian quest line and was thinking the same thing. The sites all seem to be in the middle of rough terrain so you have to land 5km or so away, then drive the clunky old SRV there and around the sites. It’s just painful.

Idea is great and I like the mysterious feeling of it but the execution is half-assed.

You can literally park right next to the site. Add to the fact SRV's are designed to handle rough terrain and I fail to see what the problem is..

I finished all the modules but it was annoying. Much better in the day time but still annoying.

This. or Git gud scrub?

You're usually the first to post some snide, sarcastic ♥♥♥♥♥ to how players are doing things wrong, so I didn't want to buck the trend... o7

I dont get it. Ship flight in this game is amazing. So why then is driving so Fing bad?

No matter what controller or setup I've used, its always the same... the problem it seems isnt said controller... its planet/vehicle friction... All they need to do to fix it is have downwards thrusters and boom! You'd have control as if you were on a high G planet! I wouldnt even mind if said thrusters used your energy reserves.

Course that would take effort, and since they havent touched SRV's since their release, i doubt anything will be done to fix them... Hell i remember when DE promised more than one type back before Horrizons was released...

Or you could pick up the planets that you land on with care - only land on high-G ones.

Or if you have to land on a low-G planet - drive on it as on a low-G planet, not as on a high-G one. Don't do high-speed sharp turns and you will be fine. If you have a racing wheel - use it instead of a joystick, it will help you to turn gentler.

There is no problem with SRV driving - it imitates the driving conditions pretty well. The problem is with the driver not adjusting his driving style to those conditions.

I disagree. The obstacles are complicating the fight, but they are not too bad to be annoying. And some of them are even useful to hide behind, so the sentinels lose a tracking of you.

I found the whole unlocking to be quite fun. What I didn't like is that you have to repeat it numerous of times if you want to unlock more modules. It is fun two-three times, then not so much. That's why I only have unlocked the FSD booster, and have mats for maybe 2 more modules, before I left those sites.

If only i could pick the planet... again this particular thread is for SRV and Guardian content. Most if not all Guardian worlds are low gravity (if not almost all worlds you can drive on anyways).

As for driving slow or careful... It only makes the game even more monotonous by doing so. To basically force players to drive slower than a snail. Again I've seen those wheel thrusters, why then dont they actually work? Or better yet have the thrusters on the side of the vehicle have a flight mode or traction mode... so many easy ways to fix this particular problem.

Besides whats the point of SRV's if they handle worse than a wet noodle? As OP stated, the only fun part is flying above the ground with them.

The fix for low gravity is to turn off drive assist. The SRV drives better with it off in low gravity. I did the site six times to unlock all the modules. The last 3 went quicker since I knew what to expect but I still say the game play sucked. I actually found more enjoyment scanning the planets and their geological and biological sites. Also enjoyed scanning systems on the way home. In the end the FSD booster might be worth it even though it takes up a slot and seems to require a lot of power. I don't know if it is 100% worth it or not b/c there isn't much difference between 50 lyr and 60 lyr jump range. It might save 100 jumps on long trips but short trips not so much.

I really did not find any enjoyment in unlocking the modules and knowing how bad it sucked does not make me look forward to unlocking any of the guardian weapon blueprints.

The SRV handles like a drunkard on roller skates, i feel you there op, i hate it so much, nothing is less fun then having to use that POS. I would kill for a tracked vehicle that gives up most of its thrusts but sticks to the ground like glue.

As for the combat you just need to know how to beat them. They are really easy and here is how,

1: activate the pillers one at a time before shooting the node to start the countdown.
2: as soon as they spawn drive over and put a building behind you and the sentinal.
3: Pop up into turret mode and slowly poke your head out until you can see him, if you can hit him with out locking on do so. The AI for that enemy is really dumb and wont always move to fight you, if it can see you, but its weapons cant.
4:Put your pips to 2:2:2 when fighting it. when it charges up its special attack that fires the homing missle, put 4 pips to system, and just soak the damage then switch back to 2:2:2 and keep shooting him.

Yep I pretty much did this. Also figured out if you shoot them to around 35% hull and then let your SRV weapon recharge you can actually defeat them before they fire missiles. If you try to fire through the weapon drain the rate of fire is too slow and they will get one volley of missiles off. But the one's that hide behind pillars are annoying and I'm not so sure they are hiding as much as they are stupid and glitching. The missiles that hit and flip you over are a major annoyance. Like I said I got through it for the modules but it was not enjoyable in the least.
