pyr0kid, I have found the most productive region is around Vamm, Naitis, Cupinook, Wolf 406, Utar and Nagybold. Do not follow the U-Tube videos attacking the bases, this does make money fast but earns you huge Galaxy Wide bounties and ruins your rep. If you need to know how to do it without incurring bounties etc, re-post and I will explain...cheers.

Its simple but alot more time consuming. Go to the base where you are supposed to destroy skimmers, land a kilometer away, delpoy SRV, use http://www.wavescanner.net/ and toggle 'Guarded Cache' and 'Lightly Guarded Cache', and just explore until you find these caches. When you then find a cache, target one of the guarding skimmers, make sure it says 'Wanted' and destroy them. But as said, takes a lot more time than just blowing up skimmers with ship-mounted missiles, go to main menu, and go back into the game, which will respawn the skimmers at the base.

Ah I forgot about that .
Yes it is more time consuming, and only with SRV you will be able determine that skimmer is wanted .

I normally land 100km away from Target Base, highlight base as a point of reference and this will prevent you driving in circles (personal experience) also when you pick up and stack the missions try as much as possible to pick the missions targetting as many of the same faction skimmers as you can this way it will reduce the number of kills you need or sites to be visited. Usually you can hit 3 or 4 guarded caches within 10km of landing site. It also has the added bonus of finding downed satelites and ships which give Intel to sell to Superpowers which helps your rank. as stated by litagocrank, be sure the skimmers show, "Wanted" or Lawless and also "mission target". If they show "Clean" and also "mission target" best to pass or you will receive a wanted bounty against you, fortunately these bounties are only 300cr and last for 9 minutes only. They will clear after 9 minutes and you will lose the wanted sticker on H-Jump. The bounty can be paid either at the Home system or on one of the stations that offer Universal Fines and Bounties settlement for a small fee (25%) I started doing skimmer missions this way after racking up 300K bounty (galaxywide) by destroying base skimmers with missiles, I also generated "enemy" status with the factions involved and this is not a good situation, they actually send ships after you. Interdictions also increased 10 fold as all NPC pilots were chasing the bounty. Yesterday I made 42million in 2 hours by completing 16 skimmer missions on 3 planets. It also has to be said that gaining allied status with factions will get you 2.5 to 3.5 million credit missions for the destruction of 12 skimmers, usually Caches are protected by 4 skimmers so it really doesn't take too long and is fun if you enjoy exploring in the SRV
cheers

You don't have to drive around to find the skimmers that don't give you a fine...

Go to the planet, hover in your ship around 2km above the ground and zoom out on your scanner as far as it goes (default keys for zoom are < and >). Look for blue circles, you might have to fly around a bit, but within 10km you should find one. That's a point of interest, it could be a cache, mining site, crashed nav beacon, etc. This narrows down your search from driving aimlessly to about 1-2 square km. You can even kill the skimmers with your ship without needing to have an SRV.

and if you kill clean skimmers with your ship you incur a bounty, best to use srv and avoid bounties as the skimmers are identified when targetting them with srv...not possible from ship offensive
