Engineering Materials
Do you know any missions that provide these materials? Other ways of collecting materials (like collecting on a planet one by one) is preeeety boring.

There are missions that provide engineering materials as alternate payment. just look for them

Find geological sites and farm high-grade materials, they trade down pretty well and you spend less time on planets that way.

I'd say everwhere. There are no specific locations where to find them. Just click through all the missions in the station and look for materials you need.

That said there are certain materials which can only be aquired through scanning ships, wakes or bases. Others can only be gathered on planets or while mining or in USS. Some yet not all can be a reward for doing missions.

Everything else is materials trader business.
Try getting the highest grade materials. You can trade in loads of lower calss materials for them.

Various Data and Manufactured materials are offered as mission rewards. Elemental materials you need to surface prospect for, they don't come up as mission rewards. Data can be got by equipping and using a Wake Scanner, while Manufactured materials are generated when you kill a ship, you'll need to manually scoop or use limpets to collect them. Material traders allow you to exchange one material for another of the same kind (Data, Manufactured, Elemental).

Good luck engineering!

About the missions:

-Only Manufactured materials and Data materials are offered as mission rewards. Raw materials are not.

-While such missions can be found everywhere, they're way more usual with factions in Boom states.

-The quality of the materials will depend on your reputation requirements of the mission. G5 materials will show up as reward in missions with rep requirements friendly and above. So the best way to find such missions is to stick around a boom state for a while.

As for alternative ways to acquire them, and much more, here's a must-have document that all new Elite players should bookmark:

A couple of good ways to get lots of materials:

  • Equip cargo bays and collector limpet controllers and go to non hazardous RES sites. Let the local authorities do most of the work killing bad guys but make sure you get a couple of hits in. When they die they create a shower of materials. Use your collector limpets to scoop it all up.

  • Equip cargo bays and collector limpet controllers and join powerplay. Do undermining in the appropriate systems and collect the materials from the ships you destroy. This will give you tons of materials. Easy kills and easy materials. Python is best suited for this task.
For rare materials and others you will have to find them in missions, etc. But most materials can be found in multiple places and/or you can use a material trader to trade materials for other materials you need.
