POLARIS - Could you get there?
so i have been looking into Polaris, more by accident than anything. but its permit locked.

however i have noticed something very interesting or at least i think so anyway. Polaris has an unlocked system within 2LY from it.

now i know i am going to sound a bit crazy here but unless your in the galactic centre systems this close are not overly common. (alpha, proxima centuri are an exeption)

look at it for yourself if this interests you and you will see what i mean, it looks convenient.

okay so i have done some quick maths also. Hutton orbital is 0.47LY give or take from its star. that's 1 and a half hours cruize.

in theory we should be able to get to Polaris in 6 hours (ish) if you could pick it out the sky as you cant lock it. Has this been done before? Will anyone try it? i am not good enough, nor do i have the time. its more food for thought. perhaps RAXXLA may even be there. who knows.

You can fly close to it, but the system won't load until you jump to it.

This sort of flight has been done before. The star doesn't load and you hit a hard wall where the star would be at something like 3km I think. You won't see anything in that system even though mathematically you technically should be there.

Hutton is 0.22 Ly away, IIRC.2 Ly om supercruise would take up to14 hours to travel (based on my personal fastest of 17,000c cruising for almost 45 minutes into the void) and require around 30 tons of fuel in most ships (though you can strip a ship down to reduce fuel consuption), so at least an Adder to accomplish. I wouldn't do it in any other ship, because if you make that trip, you're not going to have the fuel to get back or even jump to a scoopable star, run the Adder for the 5,389 credit rebuy cuz you'll need it....

A rebuy would be required because doing this is pointless, the jumps and drops from supercruise act as the loading screens, without them, nothing renders properly. Without the jump there, the system won't be loaded into your instance. You'd be greeted by a blanket of black, and that's assuming you could even get there..

A person flew from a moon to a landable planet without supercruise, it took him nearly 6-7 hours to travel that small distance, and while the planet itself was still physically there, nothing on the surface rendered in because his instance was still focused on the moon.

It's such an immersion breaking thing that is so easy to fix. Just give us a transition when you've covered the distance, take out the boom jump noise and hey presto it's done...

the transition is called a frame shift drive.

Yet it could be implemented without the jump loading screen, too.
Even if there was some stutter on switching from one (coordinate) system to another. You wouldn't probably even notice it all that much as you are FAR away from any stellar body.

Yea i honestly don't see why it's not already in the game.

Unfortunatly, you can't go system to system via Supercruise, even though it's technically faster than Star Trek's Warp Speed (Trekkies, prove me wrong).

They've never let that system be unlocked as it was a major stepping stone in previous games to finding the thargoid homeworld.
thank you all for your replies, it is a shame that this is not possible. well i look forward to it being unlocked so we can see what is hidden behind that permit.

I've never used an FSD before. I've only been playing 4 months but you seem like a very serious cat who is clearly very very very very very knowledgeable and did I mention serious? Can't remember if I did. Would you be able to tell me how to use it? It would help me so much. I've spent 4 months stuck never able to get to stations regardless of how many tinned vegetables I throw out the back of my cargo hatch.

It's easy. You choose your destination star on the left window, or plot a route to your destination on a galaxy map. Then you point your nose at the destination mark, go full speed, and press J.
TiberiuS Apr 6, 2020 @ 6:33am
for pros set the seperate buttons for hyperspace jump (e.g. J) and supercruise (e.g. k) and you can even supercruise if you have another system logged in.

ive ben wanting to phisicly see this system myself, i guess i cant now due to the first comments, i hope the devs make it posable once we get a new major update... (i hope for the best in this game)

The boom jump noise covers creating a new instance and registering it with the server.

If they hid the boom jump noise and showed a black screen for 10-20 seconds while everything is set up, how is that any different to what we have now?
