Entering too close to a star

Everytime I try and fuel scoop, I end up going way too close and going into emergency mode and stuff, for some reason, recently, I haven't been able to see that like ring around the star which indicates how close you can get to it, I don't know if I disabled it or something, if I have, how can I reenable it?

Orbit lines shows you that circle. You can check your right panel under functions to make sure it's on

Or it's the = key if you didn't rebind it

The circle doesn't always show for some reason or it might show only at a very specific angle but on other occasions it's always there.

It does delay with appearing sometime. Also you need to be not at 0 throttle for it to appear.

Fly carefully and watch the star's disk not to dive into it. I usually scoop "upside-down" so I can see where I fly.

Dont scoop at max depth, watch your scoop rate, when it tops out pull up a bit, going deeper wont get fuel any faster but it will heat up your ship faster.

What I usually do is go close enough to get like 12 per second or whatever it is, and then throttle 0 and wait for it to finish

Jepp, this here http://elite-dangerous.wikia.com/wiki/Fuel_Scoop says, flying around when you want to scoop takes longer.

You can scoope while stopped in supercruise. Just approach slowly untill you get maximum scooping rate and stop in supercruise.

also you can activate orbit lines with the UI right panel functions tab(last one I think)
