4k with gtx 970 ?
hi guys.

im planning to buy a 4k TV for my gaming. It will be my new year gift for myself :p

now, i know my GPU is not strong enough for 4k. Actually its but only in med quality.

i watched witcher 3 with the same system in med quality and it was great. Because even you make the game med because of 4k it looks amazing.

well... tbh i think Elite has not the best graphics... so i really want to believe i can play this game without serious issues... i can off shadows but i dont want to turn off texture details..like that..

any exoerience about this would be nice... thanks

Elite has fantastic graphics and the latest update will improve them again even further...
970 wont get you 4K in ultra settings... medium sure but at what FPS is the question...

I don't know about the newer 4K TVs, but the ones I've seen that had a DVI interface, still wouldn't do more than 3840X2160@24Hz.. A 4K monitor will will go as high as 144 Hz. The faster the refresh rate, the smoother the graphics will be.

that is only partly true.. if you have a GPU that cant give you high enough fps the 144Hz wont do jack...
nothing beats a Gsynch monitor with ingame Gsynch activated at 60fps

Even economy graphics cards that will do 4K will have at least a 60Hz refresh rate. If the TV can only handle 24, then that's all you get.
But to answer the original question, All GeForce GTX 600 and 700 series GPUs can support 4K resolutions, In order to power games at this resolution with settings turned up NVIDIA recommends GTX 780 SLI or better. Your 970 should do fine as long as your TV supports 4K@60 Hz and DVI interface.

Tvs are bad choices for sure they also have input lag...

In my experience, input lag on TVs really only matters in twitchy multiplayer games, and even then, only at the extreme highest levels of play where fractions of a second actually matter. For a game like Elite Dangerous, unless you have a REALLY crappy cheap TV, it shouldn't make a difference.

if you are into pvp it does make a difference... pip management during combat has to be executed within split seconds thats why I have them on side mousekeys for the thumb... input lag would make you suck! Literally everything in PvP would be delayed, targeting, scbs, manuevering, switchin between banks.. just to name a few... But hey TVs are no option for me for gaming annyhow...

I play standard games on a Vsynch monitor and Elite in VR and console games on a 230 inch projector image... cause projectors also have no input lag and arent as tiny as current day TV screens...

Depends on what you mean by "suck" i've played almost 8 years with a crappy 1080i 50 Hz 5Ms TV, on numerous competitive games such as CS:GO where reactivity and response times are literally death/alive, if it did make me suck, well i clearly didn't know until now.
But i suppose it depends on people, i'm not saying there is no difference, when i switched to a real 1 ms monitor, i felt it, it wasn't huge, but it was noticeable, though i doubt it made me better in any way, i was already wrecking people anyway :eaglewings:

5s is actually good for a TV! and yes of course the player makes all the difference... most of todays 4K tvs have worse input lag than 5ms...

and of course going from 5 to 1 isnt the same as going from 1 to 5 ;) but as said 5 isnt even that bad and certainly top for a 4K TV!

Yeah i agree it's not "that bad" but it was 1080 i 50 Hz, it could have been worse yeah ...
And indeed like you said it's not 1>5, i'm not playing on this monitor anymore, so i don't really want to try, it only serves me as a tertiary screen, but it could be fun to see how bad it was x)

I am running ED + Horizons in 1440P ultra, with a msigtx 1080 @60fps. On 4k i get about 40fps, not sure if that's any use to you. Hopefully it is

If you post your model number (with the 3 letters at the end like xzc or something) and the type code (4 chars 2 letters 2 numbers eg. AA01) I can check to see if there are any known issues. I do samsung tv warranty :)

not sure if this help but this guy on youtube has a 970 on ultra 4k for elite dangerous

sum video driver could be better than other's you will need to keep trying to find the best for you...

and it could be a matter of lowering sum setting's to get better prefomance.

if you can not afford a better gpu you could consider playing this on console i know xbox one can play this at 4k just from research for you...... not sure about ps4 pro?

hope this helps
