Viper MkIV combat build
I used coriolis.io to make a ship for a friendly battle with another Viper MkIV of unknown outfitting. This is the first time I've made a ship for combat, and would love critiques and suggestions. Thank you to all who respond!

https://coriolis.io/outfit/viper_mk_iv?code=A2pbteFel9dasef42a2a24240503475e0k290g2p---.Iw18SQ%3D%3D.IwBhrSrCJI%3D%3D..EweloBhBGA2EoDcCWAHApgJwPoFsDW2yiIME5ClEQA%3D%3D

**NOT my ship of choice -- we chose something relatively cheap because the point of what we're doing is a fight to the death**

I did find a cripplying mistake in your build...

You used a Viper Mk IV. :steammocking:

Let's just say you're much better off with the Mk3. Also, thusters and sensors are kind of a priority in a combat ship, you'll need those A-rated.

edit: but seriously, though. wrong ship.
edit 2: there's actually a lot more stuff to criticque but let's wait to see what everyone else says first

... and now you're out of power, even with the prioriies set. You need to A-rate the Power plant. And the Thrusters. And probably the FSD, too. And the AFMUs don't need to be that big. And Point defence is kinda pointless (pun intended). And you're using shield cell banks without heat sinks, so you'll cook your ship from the inside...

and it's still the wrong ship :steammocking:

Maybe something like this? https://s.orbis.zone/68vc

No worries, but remember, at the end of the day, it's a build you got from a stranger on the Internet. So there's no guarantee it will work well for you ;)

we're using little ships because we don't want to waste credits, but I'm currently using a Krait Phantom for mining, and am thinking about outfitting a Krait MkII for bounty hunting once I build up the clout. Since this conversation is already going, I thought it might be an opportune time to ask about this.

I'm hoping that's the "before" foto and not the blueprint you're going for...:steammocking:
So i'll just go section by section.

-Core internals:
  • It's a combat ship, it needs a combat hull. Military grade or Reactive, if you cna afford it.
  • A or B graded powerplant depending on loadout.
  • A class thursters, period.
  • biggest A rated distributor that fits. A-rated sensors if power requirements allow it.

-Optionals:
  • don't use prismatics for a bounty hunting ship. take absoultely forever to recharge. They're good for 1 v 1 but terrible for multiple engagements. (also, why size 5? it's a size 6 slot, i guess that's the old one?)
  • combat ships need armor. son't trust shields too much. Hull reinforcements are your friends.
  • AFMU does not need to be that big
  • neither is the fuel scoop. ut's not an exploration ship. use a smaller one.
  • Ok, you do know you're supposed to hunt down pirates, not become one? lose the hatch breaker.
  • shield cell bank, if you're going to have one, use a big one. remember that fuel scoop slot? we're going to put it to better use.
  • or alternatively, use that size 6 for a ship-launched fighter? it's one of the marquee features of the Krait, after all

weapons are really user-dependent, so i see nothing wrong.

utilities:
  • again, not a pirate, don't need manifest scanner (at this point i have to ask if you'd like a pirate build)
  • wake scanner, it'll be useful when y6ou can engineer it later. for now, it needs the room for...
  • more shield boosters
  • Kill warrant scanners aren't as good as they used to be. and did i mention you need shield boosters?.
  • if you do use a shield cell, you'll need a heat sink, otherwise, you'll never guess: shield boosters!

so here's what it would look unengineered: https://s.orbis.zone/68v_

If you're curious about a fully engineered one, this is mine: https://s.orbis.zone/68w4 but keep in mind, at that level, engineering is heavily based on personal preference.

Thank you! this has been a great help for a combat newb. And yes, it was supposed to be a bounty hunting/piracy build. May as well be able to steal my dad's diamonds while i'm on a bounty run.

1. DO you have 150 Mil to blow on your first time combat ship?
2. Why are you picking the Viper IV? If you want something fast and fun and small do the VIper, something smaller go with the Vulture (and have that forever), or just build your Krait MK2 which is IMO the best combat ship period.
3. Do you not have engineering? Will your friend have engineering? Because engineering changes everything.
4. If you are new I would use a combination of beam lasers (efficient engineering to not overheat) to bring down shields, and then multicannons (one with corrosive, all with overpowered) to bring down hull. And use gimballed, that way they will actually hit your target. I am elite combat and still use gimballed
5 you wont be able to use a shield cell bank unless, 1) you've engineered it specialized to not heat up or 2) use a heat sink.

This my PvE combat Krait
https://s.orbis.zone/68y_

I can stay out in a combat zone all day, even if I goof up against 4 Anancondas, I just repair up in the field like nothing happened and get back to it, but it would be very unsual for anything to even get past the shields

And as for the fighter, mine is elite class, with fixed beam

I just melt ships in seconds

I use this. Much more shield mj, damage, resists, and longevity. Doesn't rely on cell banks, ammo that can run out anytime soon, or hacked shield boosters. (Shield booster with 293.6% bonus???? Really?)

It is so satisfying smacking around an Anaconda and killing it in less than 10 seconds...

1) Viper MkIV was not my choice, it's for a friendly battle where we don't want to waste too many credits
2) I will soon -- I outfitted a Phantom with mining equipment and found a benitioite hotspot
3) I'm only now going to focus on engineering to get better damage and defense and the sort
4) thank you
5) I love heat sinks, mostly because of one time that i almost flew into a star because I went AFK without supercruise assist

Two very meh layouts.
If they work for you then have fun. Two of the worst builds I have seen for me personally.
