As far as controllers go, the game supports anything that shows up as a standard USB game controller, keyboard, or mouse, and you can assign controls to your liking. Steam's controller emulation doesn't work.
This game looks spectacular on the Odyssey +. I play in VR with that HMD all the time and this is one of my favorite VR games.
What the game won't do is let you use motion controllers of any type. So, if you're fine with using a HOTAS or KB/M, etc. while playing in VR--the game is great. If using motion controllers is a deal breaker, you'll want to pass on the game.
Stands for "Hands On Throttle And Stick". You might also encounter HOSAS, which stands for "Hands On Stick And Stick".
Basically, a HOTAS is a joystick coupled with a throttle / gas device, and a HOSAS refers to using two joysticks to control your ship. Both are vastly superior to using a keyboard or a controller when it comes to fine controls and accuracy, but where a HOTAS will give you a more "flies like a plane" feel, a HOS AS will allow the finest control over all axis, including lateral and vertical thrusters, for a truer spaceshp feel... At the cost of less buttons for "normal" flight functions.
I'm not sure this is the whole truth of it, iirc some people have made them work, so might be prudent to take a look on the net.
EDCODEX .info has a fair collection of apps & the good ones are usually on github.
cheers
That question has been answered by the person who made the controllers work in Elite. Basically, the VR headset was not an investment for that game specifically, and they had it already, so why not use use it ? On the other hand, investing 100+ bucks into gear that would serve for one single game was a no-go.
If you use it for one game. I play several different flight games and use it for X4, xplane, and Ace. Soon I want to give Warthunder a shot. Not a bad investment if you like flying games.
Well, I bought mine solely for Elite, but I can totally understand why someone wouldn't :) Now of course if you're playing multiple flying games, it's a perfect investment indeed.
The game is quite fun to play, if you like to take it slow and take your time to learn. Controls are horrible when you start, but it's a rite of passage. You'll adjust them several time, and then it will feel comfortable. I don't play in VR, but from what I hear, it's a game well worth playing in VR for its immersion :)
