Also, while Krait can hold it's own in combat why not look at dedicated combat ships? So many options in medium class, and so many of them are really good.
So, for raw damage potential, the MkII wins.
it depend on your personal style for combat
For me its the perfect combination of size, maneuverability and firepower. I love it.
The Phantom has become known as a great explorer ship, but I prefer the ASP or Diamondback Explorers for that role, primarily because I've already got them decked out and see no reason to get another.
They are both good at multiple roles, but for combat I think the Krait MK2 is the best in the game
I have a Krait Phantom as my explorer ship and deep core mining ship. Love it for those roles, but I wouldn't use it for combat.
Can i took a look on your deep core mining fit?
The fighter is a blessing when I'm outnumbered or some speedy little jerk won't stay in the crosshairs.

If i may offer an alternate, more purpose-built:

That said, I'd also throw the Mamba into the mix. Very reasonably priced being right around the price of an outfitted Mk2 (about 6 million more than my Mk2 as I have them built), but it has a HUGE hardpoint, 2x large, and 2x small; compared to the Mk2's 3x large, 2x mediumt. In my builds, the Mk2 is at 81.8 DPS and my Mamba at 85.9 DPS (every little bit counts in a dogfight).
Unengineered and A-rated everywhere but lifesupport (which is D rated for weight savings), I find the Mamba is faster and feels more agile than my Mk2 (easier to stay on target). Looks sexier, sounds sexier. Slightly less hull strength, but tougher shields (6x utility slots vs Mk2's 4 slots), even if using heatsinks and/or a chaff launcher..
I can absolutely mow NPCs in my unengineered Mamba, where as my Krait Mk2 just slowly trickles NPC hulls while utilized moderately engineered MCs. The Mk2 is capable of slow but steady damage over a prolonged period, but the Mamba's damage comes in huge amounts, at the cost of inconsistent firing because it tends to overheat fairly quick.
