See, that's the difference. I manually fly my ships in and out. You should try it, it'll make you a better pilot. And it's a million times faster.
I can give you advice on how to dislodge yourself, it's an old trick that works most of the time. Toggle your landing gear, deploy and retract it. It changes ship's hit box, which often gets you unstuck.
yeah dude i got mine stuck flying manually....follow along pls. My point was that even when you AP some of these ships the AP bounces it off some hardpoints on the way out. Do you get my point now?
I shall be first to admit it's not possible to go in/out in a Cutter with another large ship in opposite direction.
It is if you're going fast enough lol
So why did you say autopilot? Doesn't matter. Learn to fly. Feel free to hit up google image search for ship sizes in comparison to station slots.
I do slow down to 100 m/s if another ship is going thru the mail slot at the same time ... to avoid fines but sometimes still get fined for ships rising from their landing pads who hit me. It's really their fault for not watching like when reversing from a car park ;P
I seldom boost my way thru mail slot except maybe speed a bit to jump ahead of weekend drivers (or pilots). I mean game expects to grind (e.g., Influence in my case) and I have to efficient and fast to complete missions right? ;)
i already mansplained why susan.

Autopilots also have no problems with getting big ships through. The only time they "bounce" off the course is when some other Commander does a sudden maneuver, appearing in front of you.
When you see the AP moving your ship up or down, it accounts for the cockpit position comparing to your ship. For example, the Anaconda's bridge is at a top of the ship, so the viewscreen almost scratches the top grill of the mailslot, when the ship goes through at the middle.
Or, when you fly the Beluga Liner, you have to take in account its tail flukes, and go in a bit lower.
I don't even remember when the last time I had my ship stuck in the mailslot. They go through the mailslots just fine. But you do need to get more experience in flying ships before jumping into big ones.
