are some planets not scanable or something?
I needed to scan this planet because it's rings have a resource i need yet no matter how close i got to the planet....it said "too far for probe deployment". I eventually flew into it's orbit i got so close....always said the same thing no matter how close or far away i was. Im vexed...truly vexed. Just a gamebug?

not sure. Does that interfere somehow? I "think" i did because i had to fly to it....but then i targeted one of it's moons and my probes worked just fine. Then i came back to the planet to try again...so im not 100% positive but i think i tried it both ways inadvertantly. Always the same result.

Your DSS needs a target to know if it's close enough to deploy the probes. Without targeting the planet it always will be too far for it.
