Excessive Ganking?
Normally play solo, but I decided I'd check out Open again and see what was happening. Ganking apparently. Is it common to be attacked 2-3 times an evening? I've seen a lot of posts about this issue over the years and it's always ignored because it's 'part of the game' and a good player can avoid the interdiction, but this is excessive it seems, yes or no?

I tired to role play with some of them, but most don't say anything at all. They interdict me and kill me. They don't want loot, they just want me dead. Why? I've managed to avoid a few because my trade ship has really resistant shields, but they even interdicted me in my scout ship for some reason. My DBX scout is my most nimble of ships, but I was interdicted almost instantly, which seemed really weird.

If I was a new player, I'd be furious, because I'd have no defense against these players, and would loose an enormous amount of money to them. Yes, I block the gankers that attack me so I won't run into them again, but, is this really all Open has to offer? I've seen the claims that there are awesome communities and people to meet, but the stations I've visited were full of AFK players, and, then just the gankers. There aren't even any bounty hunters because it pays SO poorly. Plus it's not like any newbie is going to be able to take out one of these max level ganking ships, designed for PvP, so, am I just mistaken, and this is normal, or does it sound as excessive as it feels? I'm headed back to solo, in my top tier, engineered ships, and that seems like a bad sign for Open.

There are good people here and there are the bad apples. I play mostly in PG or solo because i explore a lot and i dont want to lose my carto but i do play in open during events and the like. It can get fun with other players during evacuations and incursions. o7
The Open works for PKers. If you don't want this option - don't play there. The PvE-only Private Group Mobius will cover your communication needs, minus being ganked.

I heard events, evacuations, incursions, etc we’re hotspots, but usually ok, but I got yanked in literally all those places in rapid succession, hence this post, which I’d usually never make.

I’ve considered joining a private player group, like mobius, but I assumed such groups would have so few people in such a massive area, I’d be better off just playing in solo. Is that not the case? Heck, I can hardly ever find a crew in open, let alone a private group..

I've noticed that people posting about their experiences in Open, tend to fall into one of two categories: either they are saying "There's nobody here in Open, I thought his was supposed to be an MMO but I never see anybody" or they are saying "I went to Open for the first time and got killed for no reason by a psychopath". There are very, very few posts in between those two extremes. Which can certainly lead one to conclude that you are correct: meeting someone by chance in Open is hard, and if you do meet someone, they will almost certainly want to kill you for no reason, rather than being anything remotely like a positive social interaction or roleplay.

Maybe there are lots of people out there that are having generally positive experiences of Open. But if they exist, they almost never go on the forums and talk about it.

I haven't found any friendly randoms other than people doing the occasional "o7", even in PvE Mobius. Just 95% trash talking losers. Where all the friendlies at? Christ.

One thing I find interesting is when players get asked are they sure it was a human not a NPC is the amount who have no clue as to how to tell the difference.

I've been playing for a while and the only 2 times I have been actually 100% Ganked was during the Golconda CG last year. I've been to lots of systems and only play open.

The game is what you make it and if you get ganked just go to the recent contact tab and find the player who killed you and block. It literally will say CMDR [insert name] killed you in red letters. You'll never see them directly in the same instance again. Or so I'm told.

Lol, I wonder where are they? I'm going to guess the nice ones learnt the hard way and decided to play Solo or join PG to play with "friends". Most also learn to ignore seal clubbers who taunt, pretend to be your friend, etc. Tis sad, because of some human behaviours.

The interesting thing is, Fdev know how to fix this - try ganking someone in the starter systems (new Pilot Fed ones) - you'll have your permit revoked faster than you can say 'git gud' and your top gun skills only cause the victim to lose a mission or two (inconsequential rebuy).

I think Fdev actually thinks the unfairness and internet drama that goes with PvP fitted ships preying on PvE fitted ships is positive for the game. The PvP and "PvP" youtube videos always showed off the game at its most intense, and constantly generates new uploads even when the game's in maintenance mode.

Whenever i fly towards the center of the bubble, esp places like jameson, deciat etc, i more or less expect there to be...non-constructive elements.

It is also part of why our wing is based in a backwater far from busy waters.

I have met a few cool guys over the years ingame, and some of them are still my friends.

Edit: a pvp toggle could solve all issues regarding this for good.

FDev will never introduce this toggle like ESO. They don't want to upset some long time supporters who help them to promote the risks and "dangers" of the Open mode - e.g., watered down C&P and no naming or shaming of seal clubbers.

Kudos to them though for introducing "Garden of Eden" system for newbies and finally changing Maia from an Anarchy/Lawless system ... except, the seal clubbers have moved to Deciat since.

I've experienced absolutely the same years ago and played since then in SOLO, never ever again in OPEN.
I've had a few nice encounters in open but any person visiting Deciat and Shin Dezhra must be mentally and physically prepared for gankers.

the only time I play in open is with a friend, for me this game is chill out time. Last time I got ganked was 'cus I forgot to switch back to solo after my friend left the game. I had a little chuckle as I lost connection.

There were really great players to meet before the dark times, before the Content Drought. This was one of the reasons I was so disappointed at Fdev allowing gankers dominion over the game's social side. The whole 'go into solo carebare krab' was just a solution to the 'get to the station you wanted to go' issue or rebuy issue, not a solution to the community dispersal issue.

I go to Shinrarta a lot, so that may explain the toxic chat I see a lot...
