Elite Dangerous

Elite Dangerous

Remote piloting of owned ships
I had this idea that there could be a system where we can take control of ships we own that are far away from where we are.

Its using the same principal as multicrew where its a hologram of yourself flying it. You would dock somewhere and select stored ships. Then a new option exists to take remote control.

I think it could be usefull for a lot of things. The main one is being able to play with a friend if you are in different areas.

For example right now im in colonia unlocking an engineer. But my buddy is still at our home system in the bubble. So effectivly we cant play together unless its multicrew or a long flight. With this system i could take control of my vette thats still parked there to play with him for that evening.

What you guys think, would a system like that work in elite?

Or a second account.

Meh second account is all kinds of immeraion breaking. And i couldnt even give it a leg up at the start because we cant transfer credits.

I think something like this would be more user and lore friendly. While also not breaking immersion :)

I don't think so. It would break gameplay. You could get everywhere in no time.

You could use it as a suedo fast travel mechanic, but to use it like that you would need the identical ship in every location. So it would incur a massive credit cost to use that way.

The way it is is a massive barrier to enjoying the game with friends, and traveling isnt the only type of gameplay. This lets you cicumvent that requirement to enjoy other gameplay. But people that like to travel still could and just ignore it :)

PS Maybe some limitations, like some station options are greyed out if your controling remotly. No buying new ships remotely, no upgrading remotely, stuff like that. Reasons you do have to be there in person.

But for just grabbing the ship and going to do some combat with a friend, or run a trade mission its avalible :)

It would be nice so you could explore, not have to go back to the bubble, mine a little, fly around a little, and the next day continue on your journey. I'd see little downside to it since it just moves to the ships physical location, not transfers the ship.

Thats pretty much how i see it, let you do more things. The way i have it working aswell you need a station to be able to take remote control of the other ship. So its not like you can just teleport back from anywhere. You have to land, take control of other ship, then transfer back if you want to do something beyond just missions :)

Good idea, but it will takes year to programme for fdevs.... And it will be buggy as hell.

I know that, because i play this not X haha

Seroiously though iv never touched an X game, appart from many many years ago and i didnt like it. This idea is born from an elite player spotting a problem, not bringing features over from other games ;)

I want the option to log in on web browser or phone and move ie pilot my ship. Don’t care about fighting once in range of a station then auto pilot takes over but i could fly, mine etc. If I’m that mode and i get attacked it does auto evasive maneuvers to get me away hopefully. Could be a mod to buy etc.

Since "Multicrew" is still not working properly since it's release date, i see no benefit from another feature, that works the same way.

Multicrew has worked flawlessly for me every time I've used it... I've always been the host, and I've always had my ports forwarded and upnp disabled... Manual network config may be a bit time consuming occasionally, but it works.
