Elite Dangerous

FDL is so bad. Edit not so bad after all.
Hello !
I really wonder why people like this ship. Its fat, it is not dealing that much damages. Pure garbage. Vulture outclass it. I don't understand. Those two side weapons not even able to shot forward.

The Vulture needs more hardpoints. It lacks punch. That is its main problem. My FDL is engineered so that one complete salvo of my weapons (read till energy is drained) will result in my opponents shields being toast. This is true for almost all PVE ships and poorly engineered PVP ships. I have the meta FDL build stored away in module storage but I don't usually fly with it b/c while it is great for PVP and killing bigger ships it really sucks for PVE and against smaller fighters. I suck with the plasmas even though I'm getting better. The rails are awesome but they to become annoying and the entire build generates a ton of heat.

So I use my FDL for primarily PVE and if I lose the occasional PVP match against the meta I'm willing to accept that b/c the overall ROI for my build is better than the meta build. Plus most people aren't running the meta for the same reasons I posted so you end up with most PVP being PVE vs PVE build b/c 90% of the time we are stuck with PVE since balanced PVP is quite hard to find.

The Vulture is a great ship but too down on power and weapons. It's manueverability is great but that won't win the day in the end. It is still going to get hit and the FDL hits harder and faster due to hardpoint placement and class and overall quantity of them. In the meta build my FDL can take down Condas with little trouble. A Dangerous to Deadly to Elite Conda is going to be a long protracted fight but the FDL will win in the end.

Now if you take a good Vette pilot vs a good FDL pilot with both ships being properly engineered, the Vette wins. It has so much firepower it is insane and its shields are super tanky. Reverberating cascades will even the match up a bit but larger ships usually have defenses against this.

I've done PVP with Deadly Condas and destroyed them and done it with Competent Vettes and barely escaped. It matters how the ships is fitted, how it is engineered, how the pilot flies, etc. Sometimes you fight someone who can counter the way you fly very well. Other times you are the flip side of it and you destroy your opponent easily.

Everyone flies different. Everyone builds different. Results lie within a huge spectrum.

The FDL was made for quick kills. Jump in, get the kill, jump out. If it's not dealing much damage, you need different weapons.

tried different things and combination... Really do not worth it...
it's just a shame that I can bring dowwn an anaconda with a vulture, and can't do anything with this one.

I had a fixed 4A beam, 2 fixed 3c beams and 2 gimballed MC and never had a problem. You also have to realize that the FDL is a medium sized ship and the Vulture is a small ship, so they're not going to handle the same. The FDL isn't going to be quite as agile as a small ship, it will handle a little more sluggish than a Vulture.

Yeah probably my weapons... I keep trying it differents ways for now.. To not stay that dumb about it. And yes ofc it's more sensitive to speed than vulture :( but I was jsut expecting to be less fragile than the vulture...

Yeah, the FDL has a paper hull, but you have plenty of extra utility slots for shield boosters. They weren't made for combat zones or CNB/ Haz RES. More for assassination missions/ bounty hunting. Once you get used to it, you'll find that's about all it does and end up trading it in on a Python like I did. LOL

Huh fdl is like the best combat ship in the game, i used one for 3 years unengineered 3k+ bounties and never lost one of my own doing in pve!

You don't really need engineering in PvE. And when you have system authority help, you could have done the same thing in a c rated Sidewinder. FDL is an awesome ship, but I like doing more than just hunting.

I think someone is confused between the different ships in the game....

I prefer the Krait mk 2 myself. Sold my FDL to buy it.

not at all. looks like a personal preference.

I hated the FDL when I first got it. Sold it very soon after buying it. Decided to revisit it once I unlocked the engineers. Flew it again, and stuck with it and noticed it was the first ship I used that I felt like I could actually improve myself as a pilot with.

Now I love the ship because it is actually very agile (At least when fully engineered). Very fun to fly, but it requires a pretty high skill level to fly it well. Pretty much if you don't have a flightstick... I doubt this ship is even viable. You also need to get used to the flight mechanics and understand what your ship is doing because you can spin out easy, but it feels very satisfying to fly once you get used to this and flying with FA Off.

Once starting out I couldn't take on Condas, but now I don't take damage vs them because I can stay out of their FOV, and I kept at it until I could do the same to Pythons (All in PVE - I know I know), but still... very fun ship to fly once you get used to it and actually put effort into learning how your ship is moving around in space.

I haven't touched mine since picking up a Krait, just having more fun with that, but I've made probably just under a billion credits on conflict zones with my FDL. It's stupidly fast, can be built for good DPS, is decently agile and it's got a pretty solid shield. If your FDL isn't working well for you then either you have it built wrong or you're using it wrong. Without knowing anything about your build or play style though the best advice i can give is to run hard on the lateral thrusters.

I hate the FDL personally, but it's not a bad ship, I just don't like it.

However, I have no idea why you're doing more damage in a Vulture, that should be literally impossible, as the 4 Medium hardpoints alone, outdamage 2 large on the Vulture.

except he is factuay wrong about dps. FDL kills faster than a vulture. Idk what he is flying but it isnt an FDL.
