[Solved] A file has failed to load after multiple attempts as direct3d cannot lock a buffer
So I bought the game, played for a couple hours, closed it, came back later to play again and when initializing the client the screen tourned black and the monitor lost video signal; after that, I was on the desktop and the message of "A file has failed to load after multiple attempts as direct3d cannot lock a buffer" appeared.

SOLUTION:

So after 5 days of talking with the technical support we finally discovered the issue: the game seems to have a weird interaction with fullscreen and two monitors setups.

The way we solved it:
-Unplug one of the monitors
-Run the game and go to settings and change fullscreen to borderless.
-Save changes, close the game, plug the monitor and everything should be good to go.

Underclocking the GPU and reinstalling drivers wasn't needed.

Hope this help some people happen them to experience the same as I.

Thanks to all of you who gave possible solutions to this issue, appreciate it a lot.

I know I had this error before, but I don't know what the solution was.

ED does noch like overclocked GPUs, so maybe it's that.
I'd recommend asking the Support FAQ:

GPU isn't overcloacked either. For the time being I'm waiting for the technical support to contact me back. If they provide me with a propper solution I will post it here.
Apreciate your help :D

While you wait you can do the following:

1) Verify integrity of game files in both, steam and the launcher.
2) Make sure DirectX is up to date (DXDIAG)
3) Make sure Visual C++ Runtime is up to date
4) Make sure .NET Runtime is up to date

Not so sure if you really need 3 or 4....

I have already checked integrity of game files in both platforms and everything seems to be fine. DirectX is up to date and as far as I know Visual C++ Runtime and .NET Runtime are up to date as well (note that I have been able to play once before this whole thing started and the fact
that this occurred in a matter of 2 hours)

Virusscanner action ?
TheWhatt Dec 28, 2018 @ 3:28am
Don't think so. No action by the antivirus detected when perfoming any of the tests i have run to check different things (quite many times, with the corresponding restarts)

Run "dxdiag" (without quotes). Check the Display, Sound and Input tabs. It will tell you if DirectX having problems.

Everything is alright

Have you tried running edlaunch.exe instead of going through Steam?

The launcher works fine. The issue comes when I click play on the ED launcher

OK... Gotcha. Does your motherboard have onboard graphics as well? If so, try disabling it. When you underclocked your GPU, did you go at least 50 MHz? Other than that, Nothing comes to mind. Direct3d needs to lock a buffer to transfer data from RAM to VRAM. Most of the time, it's either driver related, overclocked GPU, bad VRAM, or the computer gets confused as to which GPU to use (if more than one).

My motherboard doesn't have onboard graphics.
Yes, when I underclocked the GPU I went for at least 50 MHz. (I used MSI Afterburner, don't know if using this particular program makes any difference)
One thing I could try is to relocate game files in another drive, as I don't consider VRAM to be the problem since every other game I tried works just as supposed.

Reinstalled the game on a different SSD, same result

Does the MSI Afterburner run constantly in the background? Maybe it causes some problems.

It wasn't running on the background
