In future, ALWAYS have even cheap fuel scoop and learn about star filter. It saved me from some gruesome deaths that would cost me fortune.
The star filter is a godsend. :-D
I've also found that having a couple of 1E fuel scoops in storage are handy - it means when I'm outfitting a new ship, if I forget to grab a scoop I can have one sent over, no matter how far away my current station is from a place that sells them.
(May be a little overkill, but I like having the contingency.)
