Dual joystick problem
I have been playing ED with a Cobra joystick from Clone, which is nearly identical to the Logitech Extreme 3D Pro. A buddy of mine recently gave me an old Microsoft Sidewinder Force Feedback 2, which I was hoping to use as the left joystick for throttle.
However, ED doesn't recognise it as a different joystick when I am mapping the keys. Is there any solution to ED recognise dual joysticks? Even in the options screen for key mapping there is no choice for dual joysticks. Thanks in advance!

You might try the FD elite forums. As far as I know. It Keyboard & mouse. Joystick & Keyboard ( with mouse used in menus and on maps ) or a HOTAS set up and thats it.

Thanks. I'll give it a try
It works fine with dual joysticks, the thing is it will not say "joy1" and "joy2" in the settings, both are the same name.

So basically you have to remember what you set up, looking up in the mapping you can't tell if a button or axis is first or second joystick.

Unfortunatelly, I've already tried this. I've calibrated both joysticks in Windows, I've mapped the Sidewinder buttons in the ED options, but still it is not recognised during gameplay.
It seems awkward since both joysticks (along with a couple of gamepads) are recognised in Windows...

Make sure you have the Steam gamepad junk disabled and try again

Being somewhat lazy, well actually very lazy especially with tech related things. Most of us here in Elite are quite happy with the Joystick and the keyboard. I'd think it would be allot less bothersome to just do it that way and save for a HOTAS setup than fret over dual joysticks. But that's me lol Anyway good luck in your quest and Merry Christmass :)

I have used the Microsoft Sidewinder 2 FF and Sidewinder 1 joysticks, then went to the Logitech 3D Pro and Sidewinder 1 combo before switching to a HOTAS... X56..

I also use my Shifter / Pedals Adapter I made for my Logitech G27 so my pedals / shifter is always plugged in ( I use gas pedal for forward, and clutch to modify gas pedal to allow reverse, brake for handbrake ) and the shifter as a button box for various things.

I just reset all my controls and haven't gotten around to rebinding my shifter again but I re-added the controls for my pedals, except instead of using the pedals for my ship, it is just SRV now, I'm using the HOTAS....

Anyways - I'd say from the dropdown, choose unbound or clear or whatever it is to unbind all controls and go from there.

The controls may show up as the same button names, but it should show up as the individual joystick name / id and the button - it won't say sidewinder or whatever...

Just try binding the trigger from each to something and try it ingame..

The way I did my old setup was to use the throttle levers on both for landing gear, and cargo scoop ( hold mode, or press mode and then set up so each activation turns it on / off )...

I used the right stick for Pitch / Yaw / Roll and the left stick for thrust up / down and left / right. Then the various buttons on the right for attacking, etc... Left stick for target forward with 1 button, boost, hyperspace... I used the hat-switch on the right stick for advanced targeting so target forward secondary button, next / previous, etc.. based on direction.

The 2 stick combination worked out quite well, but I wanted to see how well a HOTAS would improve my experience and I still have my pedals and shifter as a button box so that helps.

And yes... Disable the Steam controller stuff - I've had nothing but problems with Steam controller software - it isn't refined enough, and most virtual joystick emulators or combiners end up being very laggy in terms of taking input, translating it to a single virtual stick then applying it in a game unless you set up high priority or realtime priority, and then it can cause other issues and it it still slower than straight access to your devices. I'd only use it in a backwards game that doesn't support multiple inputs.

Are both sticks plugged into a USB hub, or directly to the motherboard USB slots? I run dual sticks through a hub, but I know some hubs can get a bit screwy with dual sticks.

I've done this - so its not a dumb question - and im not implying your stupid by asking !

You are not testing this in the Tutorials are you? I ask because in some of the tutorials buttons and stuff dont respond until the game prompts you on screen. I didnt want to mess with mapping in the asteroid belt full of pirates i was in - so I went in a tutorial and because it didnt respond it threw me until i realised what was happening!

Hope you solve it - let us know - I'm on HOTAS but am seriously considering trying dual sticks - looks like mind bending confusion and a real challenge to remap my brain.

It does seem odd. You said youd tried mapping the buttons in the Elite Dangerous game options, but then no responce in game? So it avtually lets you map them?

I m using a dual T16000 setup. Dual Joystick is much better than Hotas. Thrustmaster uses the "target" software with scripts for the correct mapping of the axis and buttons. Windows has a problem to tell the two sticks apart from another. might be the problem even with two different sticks.

Look on the bottom of your sticks, there's a switch. Set one to left, one to right. No more problem identifiying which axis. You don't actually need target for elite even with two sticks ;)

I have no problem with it telling 2 sticks apart. I do have Logitech Profiler - it looks like an oldish style icon in the tray and the right click options lets you easily bring up Game Controllers - set the default device to use, and so on.It's not bad because trying to find that through Windows ( User-Friendly Interface ) is hell.
