but that's a resume,
use your finger and search a bit more next time.

Shields are more vulnerable to thermal damage but are strong against explosions
Armor is more vulnerable from explosion (a bit less from kinetik) and strong against thermal
Anyway, yes, this game need a proper tutorial, but there are a lot of good tutorials on youtube ;)
That's all they use when you're relatively new. As your Pilot's Federation rank goes up, you'll start to see Multicannons and Railguns join the party. And then damage resistance becomes slightly more important.
Hulls are naturally weak to Kinetic damage, so Kinetic resistance is a good idea. Although that will cost you some jump range and agility, and honestly I wouldn't always put a high priority on it.
You can also improve your Shield Resistance, and that does make a big difference. Shields are naturally really resistant to kinetic, but really weak to Thermal. And so if you buff your Thermal Resist just a little, you get a nice boost to overall toughness. I recommend doing that via Shield Booster, so you can run Reinforced Shields and get a regen and HP bonus as well.
And finally you've got damage on your own weapons. 'Cause all this applies to you, too. At your current level you're probably blowing targets to bits and having a great time. But once you start going into Combat Zones, life changes and damage types suddenly matter. It's important to have both, because Lasers won't do much to hull. And Kinetics won't do much to shields.
bullets/rockets/bombs/fails etc.
it's the "kinetic energy" ( or force) aspect which harms you.
simplified but easy to grasp.
Kinetic: Something solid hits you going fast
Thermal: Something really hot focused on you
Here try this: Google search "what does Kinetic mean"
kinetic adjective
ki·net·ic | \kə-ˈne-tik also kī- \
Definition of kinetic
1 : of or relating to the motion of material bodies and the forces and energy associated therewith
Ok so now we know its a "force" so lets see which weapons are used in Elite. Well there are energy weapons, so that's thermal and explosive weapons so well yea thats explosive and there are slug weapons and guess what, those are kinetic. A slug is a material body by the way :)
