Planetary Scanning and Probes - how to see what you've scanned
I think I'm missing something here.
I send probes to one planet, and it shows the area on the planet that my probes hit.
I then hit 90+% and the entire planet is scanned - so far so good

Now I go to another planet, and it is visually showing as entirely scanned, but I haven't scanned it. I fire a probe, it shows the circle/area of the probe hitting the planet, but then the circle dissappears and I can't see where I've already covered on the planet.

Is there some sort of toggle or thing I need to change so that I can see the scanning after I've scanned one planet? Or do I need to completely restart the game after completing a scan of a planet to get it to work?

I've had about the same problem but it was after i was interdic'd couldnt see where i already scanned after i started probing again. Lots of bugs that didn't get fixed during the beta.

Same problem on my end. I found if I go to a planet that looks scanned...I just quit to main menu and come back in, then it goes back to normal. Kind of a pain. Also, you're better off doing that before you try and scan the planet, because it resets the planet back to 0 if you log out beforehand anyways.

Is this the new scanning method from the last major patch? Before, all you did was aim at a planet and get in range, and you'd get the spinning scan logo in the bottom left of the HUD, now is it all from launching probes around a planet and getting it to 100% where the ship computer tells you it's done?

I'm at a system not far out of the bubble with no one's names on the star or planets, so I should get first discovery but it's not telling me.

You will not see the tags until you go to a station and sell the data.

There is so much more to the new exploration mechanics. If you're still trying to scan planets the old-fashioned way (flying close until the scan is done), you're doing it wrong. They left the old mechanics in for people who don't like the new mechanics I guess... I suggest you do a search on youtube on how to do it properly now, because the new way is soooooo much faster and more fun xD.

The probes are an entirely new thing in addition to the new scanning mechanics, giving you even more money through exploration now.

And another possibility to leave your name on the galaxy map.
